the census can go fuck itself
@foone use inspect element and add a third option, if you are lucky the server side code will be shitty enough that it accepts it
@foone on the other hand, "Foone Turing" is your legal name? damn that's cool
@foone "good question, I'll let you know once the endocrinologist gets back to me"
−my actual answer
@foone I’m not really expecting much, but I’m gonna go with “Help” on this one.

@foone ×⃝ yes

…um, unless ace. in that case ×⃝ no

@_r yeah! as a non-binary asexual I can't answer this question with anything except "NO"

@foone I was called by a census worker during the pandemic and the person on the phone was 100% okay with enby answers.

Even got a nice letter about it from the worker afterward.

I am tired of these times.

@foone the correct answer is "Help" :D

Also sometimes those can be edited as API-wise they're text rather than bool/enum.
@foone
Ah, I see I don't exist again, or I'll check the box for the sex that was erroneously assigned to me I guess. It's hard enough to get *liberals* to think about intersex people.
@foone why are there not bubbles for previous and next? They are valid gender.

@foone

If the census is "mandatory" where you are, demand the paper form. Then you can refuse to answer / do other nonsense for any question you don't like. I quit out of the online version the moment it validate-shamed me and demanded I comply with its restrictions 😉

I did this last time, drawing a line through every question that I thought exceeded the original scope of the census here (which is pretty much all but one of them). I got a couple of semi-nasty phone calls from a supervisor of some sort trying to get me to answer the questions, but I stuck to my guns.

It's theoretically possible to get fined here for refusal to complete the census, but nothing happened to me. I'm guessing it's similar in most western nations.

@foone So the choices are "previous" or "next"?
@foone just add a third option in the html inspector of your browser

@foone does anyone, including foone turing, even know?

I always assumed it was a situation like a fey said "hey can I get your gender?" And welp
