This poster role is traveling to #DH2025 @dh2025 in #Portugal on a regional cross-border #train . Why is it almost empty? I can tell you: there is no connection for reaching it from #Madrid on a Sunday. #Verkehrspolitik #trafficpolitics
@dh2025 #DH2025 having reached #Portugal on a nostalgic #train. 75 years old, refurbished in 2001. #sustainability
My trip to #Portugal: first part meditative and relaxing , then lively and refreshing with a group of #scouts. The #train became full. The #girlscout opposite me took courage, first asked about my provenience, then started to talk in German with me. An enjoyable trip in good spirit. #DH2025
@PetraSteiner Amazing that you are actually travelling by train. How did you manage to book the journey in advance? I tried through some European railway websites but connections got extremely volatile to disruption between Southern France, Spain, and Portugal.

@tillgrallert Hi Till, @cycling_on_rails and @arnecc helped a lot with their comments and advice.

- I booked interrail the cheapest option if one is not flexible in time
- The interrail booking page was useful and sent me to the site where I could book the reservations
- railfinder.eu and raileurope.com helped too
- DB-Navigator on my way gave some infos even for Spain
- Only the IC in Portugal was not bookable before, not even in #Badajoz. Finally I got the reservation on the regional train.

@tillgrallert @cycling_on_rails @arnecc
without this reservation, I would have taken the next regional train, would have cost me an hour or so. But #Spain and #Portugal are very special. This grumpy clerk in #Badajoz : no English (and selling tickets!), showing me a sign in English stating they would not sell this reservation, one has to get it on board of the Portuguese #train. A #shame for #Europe! 3 hours from #Madrid to #Lisbon would be possible. https://www.portugal.gov.pt/en/gc24/communication/news-item?i=government-moves-forward-high-speed-rail-to-vigo-and-madrid #DH2025
Government moves forward high-speed rail to Vigo and Madrid

Once the project is complete, Lisbon-Madrid will take 3 hours and Porto-Lisbon 1h15

@tillgrallert @cycling_on_rails @arnecc @dh2025 I decided not to travel again to #Portugal before the new train connection has been built.

In my opinion, at least @eadh should not choose any conference place which is not reachable by #publictransport < 2000km (if there is no strong other reason to go there). Or if there are projects for train lines, then wait until the train is *really* built from OUR (European) tax money. E.g. in 2027, check if the promises are kept. https://www.portugal.gov.pt/en/gc24/communication/news-item?i=government-moves-forward-high-speed-rail-to-vigo-and-madrid
