Jesse and James, the twin baby bandit duo that I discovered this morning, were out and about this afternoon. I suspect their mother is the second raccoon that I have occasionally seen. I originally thought one adult was male, remaining in the same small area simply because it could support it. Both being female makes way more sense. I just hope momma #2 is close by... #ProcyonLotor #raccoon #Banditry #TrashPanda #wildlife #wildlifephotography
@jared I’ve seen several social media accounts where people’s backyards have turned into baby raccoon daycare, where I guess the mother raccoon decides it’s a safe space to leave their children for a few hours while they hunt/forage. Perhaps you should try charging for the service
@giflian I consider the very fact that they stepped out into partial sunlight a most excellent form of payment. As part of my wildlife observation project, I will hopefully be able put out some solar powered pathway lights throughout my backyard to get just a little bit higher quality out of my night recording
@giflian it really is the best place in the area to live, in my opinion. There is an abundance of gnarly crazy bushes and trees next to the garage that make good hiding spots for baby mammals. Their biggest predator is the common car, which hasn't haunted those trees in over 20 years.
@jared I feel calmer having looked at this photo
@giflian I always do. There is a chaoticness to it all that appeals to, something that I understand more than any I would if it were something planned and ordered. I appreciate those as well, but not in the same way
