Tolkien lived in Africa as a child and yet he wrote the epic fantasy Lord of the Rings where all dark skinned peoples are on the side of evil.

A lot of colonial whites lived in fear. Proof: https://mastodon.social/@audubonballroon/114709447907263927

The movie repeated the 'mistake' where today most white british are racist mothafux to the point where 39% young Black brits now want to leave the uk ( https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/black-britons-voice-newspaper-study-b2421048.html ); but then they are those who were in denial of how the uk was affecting other Black People generally. At least we all know together now.

Scholars and commentators have said that Tolkien held outmoded views on race, as seen in the Middle-earth stories, based on his depictions of the relationship between evil and race (the main races being Elf, Dwarf, Hobbit, Man, and Orc). Robert Stuart says that Tolkien

was a "racialist" since he writes of races with different attributes, and then proceeds to analyse Tolkien's use of [Black] and white (including his antipathy to racism and apartheid from his mother's experience in South Africa), the nature of Orcs, the

racial connections in his language, antisemitism, and the apparent hierarchy of races and lords within them. Stuart concludes that "Tolkien's legendarium is suffused with racialist imagery and, at times, imbued with racist values".

I'm autistic so I can't read many to all tones in listening reading talking or writing; so apologies if I sound rude. It's not intentional. My words always sound gentle to me.

You had the choice to google or provide evidence that Tolkien was racist or not and you chose not to perhaps bc it wouldn't support your narrative

The Rings of Power are the correction to LOTR and I have no issue from them.

@farbel

Why don't those who make movies/tv hire diversity consultants bc that would lose them white racist consumers who are the most white in any predominantly white society.

@audubonballroon I have to say it is a lot better than it was when I was growing up in the 60s and 70s. Every black man i saw in TV was a criminal, a pimp, or a clown.

@farbel

White racists like yourself and those who claimed Tolkien wasn't racist in the article you shared never check your opinions online which is a symptom of privilege.

I actually read the entirety of your reply including the article which is another thing racists never do

@audubonballroon hmmm. I own my racism. I also fight it. I think everyone is racist, whether they admit it or not. If you are trying to make me angry, I'm too old for that shit. If you think you know me, you are deluded.
@audubonballroon no worries, your words are fine. I was actually pointing out the racist reaction to the ruins of power. Until the movies came out, it never occurred to me that hobbits et al were anything but multuracial. Being white, I also assumed that the wizard of Earthsea was white. I was surprised, but not unpleasantly, to learn that LeGuin always intended him to be black.
