Western Leftists went to Spain to fight Franco, and were surprised when they were ordered to charge fortified positions.

Spanish Nazis were sent to the German Eastern Front to fight the Russians. They too were used for cannon fodder.

@benroyce @crazyeddie @mike805 OK you don't get maple syrup in the Netherlands (there's different stuff using different sugar beets), but there's plenty of farms there too. I did a bit of digging and it seems this wingnut familys parents moved from NL to CA in the late 1980s (exactly the same time NL like the rest of Europe became more and more socially liberal) which suggests *generations* of the family have a habit of quitting countries because they think they are "too woke" (as opposed to those who emigrate for more /freedom/, like my own parents did in the 1970s)

@mike805 @benroyce yea there is a story of one family that went to escape the lbgt west and now the father is on the front lines in the Russian army. He signed up and thought he wouldn't be near the front.

There were a couple others I know just wanted to go fight for Russia. I believe one was just killed by his own squad.

Yesterday I saw a story about an American anti-lgbtq+ bigot who moved to Russia. With no previous military experience, he joined the Russian army with the promise that he'd be given a non-combat assignment, and bam, now he's immediately being sent to the front line in Ukraine, after 2 weeks of training conducted in Russian, a language he does not speak. So sad. 🤣
