This applies to nearly every Design Decision.
I break it down to:
Do we need to design it with pattern X now?
-> Yes => lets do it
-> No
-> Do we see that we need it (maybe) later on?
-> Yes/Maybe => Design it to make a transition as easy as possible in the furture
-> No => Take the easiest and fastest Design to make progress
