A really helpful few posts from a Junior Doctor who is paid Β£20 an hour explaining her pay and conditions.

In all of this we should remember that since 2008 pay for junior doctors has fallen by 20.8%. Over the same period from 2008 to 2025, the basic salary of MPs climbed from Β£63,291 to Β£93,904, an increase of 32.6%. Not including all their expenses.

Seems to me that they worth way more than 20 quid an hour.

@IndyRichard That's what we pay our cleaner in Australia and I think we may be underpaying her.

@IndyRichard

Junior doctors in Australia have just been through this.
Because they start out in hospitals governments are their boss.
Every government in the country is trying to avoid changing the pay and conditions for these doctors.
The easiest path would have been better conditions now and talk pay later.

No. Governments have decided on a talk fest and procrastination.

@IndyRichard seems like either they are dramatically underpaid, or plumbers are way over paid. Or a bit of both I guess.

@IndyRichard

That feels like a raise of 48,3% to me ;)

@IndyRichard I used to follow her on Twitter, shame she never seems to have moved across here as she was always a good voice of resident doctors (previously known as junior doctors as they have been renamed).
@IndyRichard I was in sympathy with the argument right up until "...working as hard as I do". There may be all sorts of reasons why a pay rise is deserved, but working hard isn't one of them. There are plenty of people earning minimum wage who work hard and plenty of rich people who do nothing all day.
@IndyRichard Is the 32.6% increase calculated using Β£83,904 instead of Β£93,904?
