It was for my father, who for roughly three decades regularly visited Gullane for the golf. And that was back in the last quarter of the previous century, when golf travel mania was only just getting started. As you mention in the article, Gullane Golf Club does not have the international fame of Muirfield, but my father preferred the more informal atmosphere of playing Gullane.
