I had an amazing weekend. Got to spend some much needed time with some local friends and nom some very tasty food, let myself have fun for once and greatly enjoyed playing with fire(works) for the first time in years, and got a new reason to get my ass in gear and start DJing again regularly!

Tomorrow I am going to focus on getting my DJ table put back together and getting my library in order. I'm hoping to record at least one set by Friday - and if I do, I'll put it on Mixcloud.

Oh shit I should add that to my Fursona Directory page!

And added! If you enjoy #trance music, give me a follow on Mixcloud so you can be notified as soon as I start uploading sets! Find my Mixcloud on my Fursona Directory page here: https://fursona.directory/@baralheia

Once I get going, I want to try to upload once a week, but we'll see how that goes lol. I might end up posting more or less, just depending on how I feel about my mixes - expect cringe! But I'm excited to restart this journey and get serious about music!

Oh.

It looks like my music library is corrupted. Not sure if it was Rekordbox or pCloud or what but 90% of my music either now has zero metadata, or is missing random ID3 tags (mostly the release date).

Awesome.

Just a few months ago I put *literal days* of effort into sorting and correcting the metadata on my music library to get me prepared to DJ.

All that effort down the drain.

And like an idiot I didn't back this stuff up locally once I finished. My last backup was from *before* I did all that work.

I might have one hope... If the library corruption happened when I think it did, it happened today... And one of the computers I synchronize my DJ library with through the cloud wasn't powered on at that time. So... If I'm lucky, I might be able to pull the network cable and get my library back.
If not... All is not lost, I can re-download everything I've purchased from Beatport. I'd have to go back through my process of correcting the track metadata and renaming/sorting the files into folders by genre, which will take time (I've got like 2500 tracks rn)...
But it's better than trying to manually fix them all, since I can't be sure I'm putting the right info back in for things like the release date. Mp3tag can look that up, sure, but it's lookup tool is a chore to use across that many tracks since some songs had multiple releases to pick between.

So the bad news is the copy of the library on that powered off machine is also fucked.

The good news is thanks to file versioning in pCloud I know exactly when the corruption occurred - April 10, 2025. And I can revert back to the old files!

But only one at a time.

OH THANK FUCK

Found a thumb drive I had apparently prepared right before TFF that has my full music library on it, last modified literally days before the corruption occurred.

I still have a few tracks I've acquired since then that I'll have to reprocess and fix but... That's WAY more manageable than 2500+.

@baralheia Oof.. this seems like pain and I'm really sorry that I don't have any advice for it..

@FlitsFlash The sentiment is absolutely appreciated hon.  Yeah it... Honestly sucks. But hopefully, maybe, I'll get lucky and be able to recover that library from the powered off machine.

And this time I'm making actual backups gdi

@baralheia https://picard-docs.musicbrainz.org/en/index.html This is a great tool to help with tagging. Maybe it can auto fill some of the missing stuff for you?

@baralheia oof. my sympathies, dergin. I hope it's not too much effort to get your music back at least.
@baralheia I love trance! Your first mix on Mixcloud has a nice variety, do you have a full tracklist for it?
@baralheia also random, but that fursona page is hard to read on mobile since the text is black on black
@starry I appreciate the heads-up, I just noticed that myself. Will get that fixed ASAP, thanks!

@starry Hi there!  I appreciate the sentiment but I cannot claim credit because I haven't uploaded anything just yet! Like SoundCloud, MixCloud allows you to share sets you like from other users, so that set you listened to was actually made by @cynra. They're much more active on the BlueSky side of things nowadays, but still worth the follow anywhere you find 'em - they're a really great trance DJ!

I'd also recommend giving their fantastic "Finding Home" set from Furality Somna a listen, it's so good!

As for me, I want to have my first recorded set uploaded by Friday, hopefully. I'll definitely announce it when I upload it! Though I expect it to be rough around the edges (I am still a beginner, after all), I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

@baralheia @cynra Oops derp, appreciate the clarification. It's still a great set, so thanks for introducing me

In that case, I wish you the best of luck for your first set! If I don't forget, I'll keep an eye out for it

@baralheia Related: LABR is looking for djs :3
@catraxx Thanks for the heads-up! What's LABR tho? Not familiar with that one
@baralheia It's where i spin. https://labr.online Very nice people and all on fedi, too.

@catraxx Oooh. Okay, good to know, thanks! I'm not sure my skill level is that high just yet, but still I'll have to check it out!
@baralheia If you need any help at all, please don't be afraid to ask.

@catraxx I appreciate it! I'd love your thoughts on the set once I get it posted. I expect it to be a little rough but... Idk we'll see how rusty I end up being in practice haha

Remind me, you like trance, right? Am having a derp moment

@baralheia Yes, though i like a lot of electronic music. Trance, techno, dnb, house ...
