@jwildeboer Danke dir. Das es Bibliotheken gibt, die Zugriff auf Statista geben, ist cool. #Heidelberg ist leider nicht dabei. Mal schauen, ob ich mir aus der Ferne einen Ausweis besorgen kann. Ansonsten ist mal ein Ausflug eine Idee.

@andreclaassen Es sind leider nur wenige Bibliotheken, die den Schritt gewagt haben. Hoffentlich werden es mehr! Ich kann über meinen Zugang die ganzen Daten als XLS downloaden und weiterverarbeiten. Das ist schon der Wahnsinn.

Vielleicht ist diese "Liste Registrierung ohne Residenzpflicht (öff. Bibliotheken)" von @hipsterl0s da interessant. Da sind auch einige mit "vollständig online möglich" aufgeführt.

In Berlin you can even borrow stuff like a drill or a sewing machine for a week! Not to mention framed posters for 3 months at a time, and as you say: all the digital stuff, from newspapers to audio books. It is such a great deal!

@jwildeboer public libraries are great, but regarding Statista, this is a company/service selling largely encaptured public statistical data to public institutions, turning public wealth into private wealth. I borrowed a thermal camera. You can borrow a telescope, CO2 monitor, musical instruments.

Books too of course.

@jwildeboer While I personally enjoy my local library's offer as well (even for 0€/EUR per year), it became absolutely invaluable with my kids. Their hunger for books is just endless.

All that, sometimes more, sometimes less, but it seems to me that one of the features of libraries is librarians who, around here, are unfailingly helpful, cheery and personable as they facilitate your task. I had the joy of accompanying grandkids to story time a couple of decades back, and still get queries about how the "little ones", now university-aged.
