Hello #Fediverse,
I need your help again. I want to ditch #Spotify because fck all who support genocide, so here we are:
- advice for a new podcast streamer (no Apple)
- advice for a new music streamer (I already use Indie Beat radio when studying/writing)

So, #FediCitizens, do your magic again

@alx hey, qobuz is quite nice for music, podcast i have no idea
@kajou thanks, I'll check it :D
@alx my music streamer of choice is mixcloud.com who are nice boys from England (or certainly used to be). It's great for long mixes, less good for other things.
@coldclimate I might like that, especially when long writing time is needed. Thank you!
@alx pretty much how I use it
@alx
I use Podcast Addict for podcasts, YouTube Music for streaming
@camille thank you!
@alx @camille podcast addict is great, I've been using the paid version for years because that guy deserves our support.
@lambic
I pay too! I wish more apps offered paid options rather than forcing you to just swallow ads constantly.
@alx
@alx I use AntennaPod, it works very well
@webhat @alx Seconding AntennaPod. It's just a no nonsense podcast app. Exactly what I wanted.
@_ @webhat thank you!
@alx @_ @webhat its an incredible opensource app. The only downside is that it doesnt have a desktop version. It is amazing.

@quimnuss @alx @_ @webhat I agree. I've been using AntennaPod for years and I woldn't change it for any other app. It works well and it's FOSS.

So that's for podcasts. Now, do you know any open source alternatives for music? I want to quit Spotify but still have access to comercial songs πŸ˜….

@_
Thirding it.... Great app, easy to use, and is clean enough to be available on F-droid
@webhat @alx

@alx the nice thing about actual Podcasts is: you can use any App you want. Podcasts are meant to be distributed freely, with no commercial gatekeeper inbetween.

My favourite app for Podcasts on Android is @AntennaPod:
https://antennapod.org/

When it comes to streaming, I'm quite happy with #Qobuz:
https://qobuz.com/

AntennaPod – The Open Podcast Player

AntennaPod is a podcast player that is completely open. The app is open-source and you can subscribe to any RSS feed. AntennaPod is built by volunteers without commercial intere...

AntennaPod
@alx
I've used Overcast for ages but it's Apple only
I switced from Spotify to Tidal a couple of years back and so far have been satisfied. It's not perfect but it allows sharing your account with chosen family instead of family in the same address, and it pays to the artists you listen to the most each moth.

@alx I enjoy Pocketcasts for podcasts.

Swapped Spotify for Tidal, find it ok.

@alx for podcasts I use @AntennaPod , which is a great open source app with a lot of useful features
For music I'm trying Tidal right now since it seems to pay artists more than what Spotify does
@alx I am a paying customer of Deezer, there is a playlist/fav importer for Spotify. It's not indie and likely not idealistic, but it has the music I enjoy. I have never used Spotify and can’t easily compare. But I use it because it works on my old Logitech smart radios.. hope it helps :)

@alx @brothersoul here.

Hopes this helps you. Enjoy the music. Big up's.

@alx Pocket Casts for me. I think their web version is now freely available as well, not just mobile/desktop apps.

Not sure about music streamer, but I've used Qobuz for some hi-res downloads and I know they have a streaming feature.

@alx

PocketCast on Android works for me.

SoundCloud formmusic not available for free on YouTube πŸ˜ŒπŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

@alx I'll hop on the Pocketcasts train. Been using them for years and was lucky enough to get a lifetime membership (not required). I shuffled through a bunch and still check out new ones but PC has been good to me and I keep going back.
Podcini.X - Podcast instrument | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository

Modern, feature-rich, without access to Youtube

@alx more votes for Qobuz and AntennaPod.
@alx Pocket Casts and Tidal. I chose both a long time ago and am quite satisfied.
@VisualStuart I'm trying Pocket Casts now, I like that they have a web app so that I can try it without having to install an app (for now).
@alx I listen to podcasts mostly offline, such as while driving without eating up my mobile data plan. Using the unpaid version of the app, I have no problem downloading lots of episodes and queueing them up.
