Would you like to end the constant drumbeat of ill-informed legislative proposals that threaten to destroy end-to-end #encryption in #OpenSource #software? Are you from #Europe? Can you demonstrate your expertise? Then why not apply to join the European Commission's Expert Group for a Technology Roadmap on Encryption (E04005). Deadline is September 1st, don't be late.

@webmink well they're trying to find ways for law enforcement to decrypt stuff. But the whole point of encryption is ensuring they can't. ๐Ÿ˜„
@ema I have it on excellent authority that this expert group can influence that...

@ema @webmink

A minor detail is missing. No encryption is strong enough to last forever. Encryption need to be as strong as possible for as long as the data is presumed valuable. But it carries no guarantees the encryption will be strong enough.

Of course, legislations and laws limiting the strengths or capabilities of encryption (including "baked in" backdoors) will always be problematic. Technology can never differentiate between the "good" and the "bad" actors. (Just ask USA and Iran who are good and bad).

@webmink @Natanox Iโ€™ll happily apply, will do tomorrow!

@webmink Looks like we need people to apply as "representatives" of several fields.

ยซNo more than 12 individuals appointed in a personal capacity with proportional representation of the following fields of expertise: home affairs; cybersecurity; telecommunication (including 5G/6G and messaging applications), big data analysis; standardization; justice and fundamental rights (including data protection and privacy)ยป
