We've come to the last three rolls of negatives from the box labeled "1968." But I need to explain something before I show them.

Back in April, I posted a sequence of photos taken during a preliminary day of language crafting prior to the 1968 California Peace and Freedom Party nominating convention. This was an intense experience for me, and I have some vivid memories of the event, including a couple of anecdotes that I included with the pictures.

2/

You would think, therefore, that I could be certain about basic facts relating to the event, despite my addled recollection of the late 1960s. For example, the person who provided my ride there was one of the worst drivers I've ever met, and I was terrified for the entire trip -- something not easy to forget. And I have remembered all my life that our destination was San Luis Obispo, chosen for its location equidistant from both L.A. and San Francisco.

3/

Duly diligent, I checked online to confirm my memories and found the only reference to anything like this (in the Wikipedia history of the party) was an organizing convention held in Richmond, which lies just north of San Francisco and a couple of hundred miles north of SLO. So when I posted the photos, having found no other references and reflecting sadly on the ravaged state of my grey cells, I stated that the convention had been held in Richmond.

4/

Now comes a set of photos taken outdoors the day after the sequence I posted earlier (found grouped here at the end of the 1968 collection because they were taken on 120 film). And the scenery doesn't look like the industrial city of Richmond, not even a little bit. It looks exactly like San Luis Obispo. And it's now obvious that this nominating convention in SLO was entirely separate from the organizing convention that had taken place in Richmond.

Another search of the net confirms that there is no evidence online that the event shown in the upcoming photos ever took place. Outside of the FBI files, the convention does not exist as a historical fact.

But once I post the photos, it will exist as a historical fact.

I'm used to living with a certain amount of ambiguity regarding objective reality, but I'm not used to actually creating objective reality. It's a strange feeling.
