If a post starts with "They don’t want you to know this, but..."

...there's a very high chance it will be followed by misinformation.

I couldn't say 100% chance because there's always the possibility that Twitter cut them off early due to the low max character count and/or they accidentally hit send before finishing their "thought."

@Alice They don't want you to know this but ... if the post starts with "They don't want you to know this, but ..." it will probably be followed by misinformation.

Did we just create a paradox? Are we about to collapse the Fediverse?

@Alice BANKS DONT WANT YOU TO KNOW THIS ONE TRICK!!!’

Now click on one of these seven thousand buttons.

@Alice good chance it was previously created for the military too
@Alice Misinformation? I lick he boom-boom down!

@Alice it's like those Nigerian Prince scams - if you're not delusional enough to believe in a big, shadowy, well coordinated THEY (*), you're not gullible enough for what comes next.

(* Ask enough questions, and THEY usually turns out to be some half baked reference to something juuuuust short of some flavor of blood libel.)

@Alice What? Ads are misinformation, too?
@Alice And if it starts with "You won't find this anywhere in the mainstream media. . ." a quick search will turn up multiple media accounts.
@humourmetom Whether they are reputable media accounts is a different story.
@Alice @humourmetom It's normally "THEY'RE NOT COVERING THIS TINY EVENT THAT I WANT TO PRETEND IS HUGE" or "THEY DON'T TALK ABOUT THE MIGRANTS" etc. And it's invariably on some mainstream news sites. Often quite prominently in the latter case.

A shitpost is defined as a post you make while on the can.

@Alice Propagandists hate this one trick

@Alice

"They" almost always refers to rational people who know what they're talking about.

@Jorsh Yep! People are chiming in with their own versions, but I very intentionally chose my wording, and specifically with the "they."
@Alice …and/or some energy-saving gadget scam.
@Alice
had me at 'they'.
@Alice @sarae They don’t want you to know this, but… the “laws” of thermodynamics are merely suggestions. There’s no Entropy Police who will arrest you if you break them. Be free!
@Alice they don't want you to know this, but if a post starts with "they don't want you to know this, but", there's a good chance it could be misinformation.
