How do you keep your interest going with #genealogy? Is the spark still alive? Or is the magic gone?

This is something that I've been struggling with. Recently, I had to make a few decisions on where to spend my #time.

I would love to hear from others on their thoughts about gen #research, #brickwalls, and #burnout

I wrote down a few of my thoughts and issues:

The Magic is Gone

Losing interest in genealogy after a lot of dedicated work, time, and effort is disheartening but it's also ok.

@AncestryRoads

Great article. And, yes, there are bullies and know-it-alls (and snarky shites) in genealogy.

I now have a big tree (using Legacy Family Tree), but I still have mysteries and things I could add.

I basically rotate through my ancestors, looking for ways to enhance their story.

Currently, I am focussed (again!) on my County Galway, Ireland ancestors. I probably won't find more written info, but DNA suggests an Irish Traveller line (with County Westmeath entering the story).

@PostcardsFromParadise I think you have truly found the "secret": rotate amongst ancestors to find the story.

Facts and sources are great but the stories and research are where the heart of the matter is.

Thanks for responding. Your reply has definitely been uplifting.

I think that #genealogy has been a hobby for me since 1990, and it was all-absorbing when there were many new discoveries to be made. Then, I did my DNA and discovered many new cousins. At this point, there isn't much new to discover, and I have other hobbies that use my time and money. I'm about to archive most of my trees in order to save money on the Ancestry subscription.
@AncestryRoads @EllenInEdmonton we might have an idea, where you could put your tree instead, without paying a subscription 😉

@EllenInEdmonton

You and I are twins. There comes a point where a brick wall in #genealogy remains and there is not much more to discover.

I've started archiving my #FamilyTree on #WikiTree and backed up on software.

What other hobbies do you enjoy? Asking for a friend. 😂

I've been #sewing more and more, joining several groups where I can sew socially. My wardrobe is mainly #MeMade now, and I pick up most of the fabric second-hand.
I'm also obsessed with #kdrama, TV series that were made in Korea with the most amazing production values and creative stories. So, I've studied the language for the last couple of years and spent a month travelling there in April/May.
Also, various physical and outdoor pursuits.
