I do wish we could find something else to call the Republicans other than "the GOP." There is nothing grand about these vicious, evil people.

Now, I get that the press needs it for short headlines. But they use "Dems" for Democrats and that's four letters. So I propose the "Grand Old Obsolete Party," which headlines can refer to as "the GOOP."

So, in my opinion, at least since his first term in office, the term "GOP" has been more of an insult than a neutral term or even a compliment.
