Culture: How does your work explore, challenge, and/or exploit gender stereotypes?

It's difficult for me to answer this because I don't really set out to do any of those things. I think they tend to happen incidentally because of who I am.

The Taking Command series challenges them in part by having different gender conceptions in the species that inhabit the Tikud Empire (and its surrounds). Don't Get Seduced By A Fairy! may theoretically challenge them in that Effluvia is the main instigator and Mike ends up being the primary caregiver to their child(ren). The things Beware Of Fangs! is exploring don't relate particularly to gender stereotypes but rather things I think we can all resonate with ... that happen to be happening in a fantastical setting.

How important is it for characters to be distinct from each other? (visually, emotionally, other ways)

It kind of depends on what you're doing. If the character is an audience insert, you can probably be a little repetitive without it being too much of a problem. I've read an acre of stories where the real differences between the characters basically amount to what world they're in and what powers they have in it. That can work. It's just not what I'm doing.

Do you use any frameworks (e.g. astrology, MBTI, elements) or techniques to distinguish them?

No. I let the characters tell me who they are in the process of developing them and the process of telling their stories.

ComicsCamp.Club

Culture: Is there a refreshing trope, pattern, or topic that you'd like to see more of in erotica?

While I read a lot, I'm not sure I really read enough to suggest something here. Apart from pretty tame things that Amazon finds too scandalous to allow. (Like spanking.  Yes, I know plenty of people get away with it. I'm not going to risk it. Amazon is way more strict when you're writing queer fiction.)

To be more constructive ... I'd like to see more people trying weird stuff they want to write that they're not sure if they'll find an audience for it.

Setting: How much does the weather feature in your work?

The fact that it's winter through the entire stretch of time in Beware Of Fangs! is an ongoing plot point. Vampires can spend a longer part of the 'day' outside because the sun isn't out. A lot of them are more noticable because they're not impacted by the cold and sometimes wear clothes that humans would find inappropriate for the weather. Paige is still cognizant that she needs to wear coats for appearances but her mentor frequently goes out in the bitter cold in sundresses.

Does it lead to (or hinder) erotic interactions?

Coats and gloves play a key part in at least one erotic interaction. And that's all I'm saying about that for the time being.

Craft: Recommend a tool (or more than one) or just tell us about your personal favourite. Could be a physical tool, a piece of software, a type of paper, a desk lamp, whatever you like.

I could mention Pandoc again. And it is a great tool. Instead, I'll go with PaperMate InkJoy gel pens. They're really great for taking notes with or even doing hand writing of prose.

How important is it that an audience experiences your work?

I wrote for years with no audience but myself but that's not where I wanted to stay. And not just because I hope to have the ability to make a living off of this one day. Art exists in conversation with its audience. I think it needs that audience.

How much interaction do you want?

Broadly, I'd likle to know that the audience is there. I'd like to know they felt something about it. Good or bad. I tend not to trust praise directed at my person but apparently I'm ok with people saying nice things about what I wrote.  Even the low bar of 'good or bad' is a precious gift I'm thankful for when I receive it.

Characters: It's a traditional day of gift-giving for your characters — what do they give you?

They're not that far off from our world. Given that they don't know me, they would probably get me whatever the equivalent of Star Trek merchandise would be. And that would probably be a good guess.

Setting: Is there a setting or genre you'd like to create in, but haven't? What's holding you back?

Not in relation to erotica / romance, no. Outside of that would be telling a bit but I will say I'd like to write at least one of my bizarro stories and I haven't gotten around to that yet. It's mostly a question of time and energy.

#EroticMusings Week 17 (September 21-27) Craft: Do you show off most of what you make, or often practice your craft on things that never get seen by anyone else? (sketches, ramblings, etc.) Share something you normally wouldn't.

I don't think I really have anything that falls into that category. I just have stuff I wouldn't share here per se. Here's some photography I did that, to my recollection, I haven't shared anywhere. I hereby release this under a CC-0 license. I'll actually probably be borderline annoyed if you do credit me with it anywhere but on the Fediverse.  (There are higher res versions of that image available on request if anyone desperately needs it but we'll have to find some other way to transfer it. Mastodon likes to do mischief to images.

#EroticMusings Week 18 (September 28-October 4) Studio: Do you have a dedicated space and/or time for your work? How do you avoid distractions?

It's not dedicated space or set time. I usually use instrumental music to block out the noises. I don't have a way to stop outside interruptions. If a cat or a human comes by to talk to me ... well, I guess I'm not getting much writing / creating done until they stop.

Who's your creepiest, gothiest, or most monstrous character? Give us a taste!

I haven't written the parts that are really haunting for Patricia yet so here's kind of the next best thing I guess?

#EroticMusings Week 20 (October 12-18) Culture: What is it about "negative" emotions like fear that we find compelling in entertainment?

I'm not sure I can speak generally about negative emotions but, speaking for fear, the thing I've heard that makes the most sense to me is that we're doing it in the same way we might ride a roller coaster or bungee jump. Allowing ourselves to face those things in a controlled setting can be a thrill. I think it can also be a form of catharsis.

Does your work often evoke these emotions, or do you try to avoid doing so?

Generally not in erotica or erotic romance. Not to say there's no place for those less positive emotions there. It's just not part of my repertoire in that area at the moment.

#EroticMusings Week 21 (October 19-25) Setting: What's the most fun you've had with a creepy, spooky, or spoopy scene or setting? (Spoopy: calling upon horror tropes and concepts in cute, non-threatening or comical ways.)

I'm currently doing that in When The Spirit Moves Me but the spoopiness is just the season of the year and the fact that Patricia keeps disappearing on Terry. (Because she's a ghost.)

#EroticMusings Week 22 (October 26-November 1) Craft: How do you use the horrific or strange to accentuate or contrast with the erotic in your work?

There are elements of the strange in When The Spirit Moves Me and the main guy character is freaked out a bit by the specifics of what it means to be dating a ghost. I definitely included some elements of that in the story itself. It's not really a thing I focus on including in my erotica / erotic romance.
