Seeing some extra spicy #USPol takes on my timeline right now suggesting certain actions that "someone" should take and y'all I 100000% get it but *especially* today you NEED to watch this:

#ShutTheFuckUpFriday #STFUFriday #ShutTheFuckUp

@baralheia
"Anna und Arthur halten's Maul!" — 1987

There are no banal questions.
No testimony is benign.
No testimony is exonerative.

@baralheia I’m not liking or boosting those posts either. Keep it non-violent y’all!

I remember back in the day, the people advocating violence were usually working for The Man.

@superflippy @baralheia

@baralheia
You're correct, but the double standard is still infuriating. Fascist personalities can get away with stochastic terrorism, but us lefties can't even hint that someone should take direct action.
@KinkyKobolds Oh I agree with you wholeheartedly about the double standard. It's bullshit. But it's also SO important to protect yourself because they're going to be looking for any reasons to silence opposition.

@KinkyKobolds
@baralheia

This doesn't matter left vs right (collectivist vs individualist; same bird, will snatch us up individually regardless), this matters top or bottom (authoritarian vs anarchist). If you don't want the authorities using yourself against you, say it with me:

"SHUT THE FUCK UP!"

@baralheia Careful thing to note though, if a cop asks you to identify yourself, do not stfu about that! Only do what is necessary, but say nothing more!!
@Starcross @baralheia Can I say, "Here ya go, 'papers please' fascist pigs," as I pass over my license?
@MaierAmsden @baralheia sure, pretty sure they're used to being sworn at it stuff, wouldn't phase them lol
@Starcross @baralheia The ones I'm used to dealing with would definitely take an interest in seeing me punished.
@MaierAmsden @baralheia @Starcross you can

but don't

cops are idiots and have the state as their protection, don't be confrontational for no reason
@baralheia @MaierAmsden @Starcross literally just id yourself as neutrally as possible and refuse any conversation. confrontations won't do you any more good than being chummy
@baralheia @MaierAmsden @halva otherwise you risk yourself getting on one of those bodycam YouTube channels and being called a 3 year old
@halva @baralheia @Starcross Too late... struggling to type... head being caved in by retractable baton... not sure how long I can go on describing traffic stop... no body cams... light fading...

@MaierAmsden
@Starcross @baralheia

If you're going to do that, say it in German.

"Papiere bitte."

Puts a sharper tip on the point.

@baralheia *Somebody* has to say it out loud.
@baralheia I guess what I'm saying is, we should thank them even as we warn them. For those who know the risks and still say what needs to be said, that's a really important service they're doing for their community.
I wish it was that simple! They'll go after people who stay quiet viciously. Shutting the fuck up can make you a target, a suspect and hardened criminal in their eyes.

What I tell people is to stay safe, do what you have to, but recognize that there is never, ever, ever, ever a good reason to respond to a police officer, without being forced to.

If the police are upset that they can't do their job, well maybe they should go arrest the USA legislators and judges who said that police are there to protect property and attack people, they’re fully allowed to trick you into self-incrimination, and responding to them can only incriminate you. Long as that’s true, it’s too dangerous to help cops in any way.

@baralheia I feel like important context that some people reacting to this video are missing is that it was produced by the National Lawyers Guild.

so like, this isn't some random people telling you to shut the fuck up, this is your lawyer (=the association your lawyer is likely to belong to if they are in the business of defending activists) telling you to shut the fuck up!

@baralheia
It's good advice, even if you agree with them. Those sorts of responses aren't helpful anyways, and lashing out like that only makes you a target. And giving unstable criminals with badges an excuse to target you isn't a good idea. So STFU.
The issue I think needs to be addressed at some point soon, is that fascism has never been removed without violence. Historically speaking, we're already past the point where there's a nonviolent way out of this situation.
The fear I have, is that this push for non-violence will paralyze folks untill the regime has consolidated enough power that removing them by force becomes impossible. Historically that means it rules for a long time. The mass recruitment by ice is to ensure they can violently crush any opposition.
Don't provoke, don't give them excuses. Don't make yourself a target. Don't be someone their propagandists get to smear publicly. But lets not pretend the law means anything to them. Lets not pretend shutting up will matter if they decide they don't like you.
