"your website doesn't work without javascript"

ah yes you see that's because javascript is part of the website. and you're attempting to cut that part out entirely. for some weird esoteric reason. what did you expect lol? you can't complain when the problem is literally something you've created for yourself. this is like leaving a bad review for a recipe online because you randomly decided to replace one of the core ingredients with something else entirely

this is just something i've heard a good bit and it always irks me

#javascript #html #css #WebDesign

@vantablack companies that deliberately make #WebDevs build sites that are #AntiAccessible due to #JavaScript deserved to be boycotted and shamed into reversing that decision.
@kkarhan @vantablack to be fair Vanta managed to create a site with pretty colours / effects and accessibility, you can click on a button on the site and it holds the colours at combinations with different contrast (if you find the changing ones are too much for you / difficult to read )

@vfrmedia that's not a hit at @vantablack . Her Website is interactive art…

It's a hit against big corporations who shove websites so full if garbage that I need to basically use #TorBrowser on highest safety setting.just to not trash the battery life on my devices.

@kkarhan @vantablack the local news use so much javascript based adtech that you need adblockers/privacy software or the sites are simply unusable,

Although one problem because of this is folk quite understandably block Javascript, find a good site like Vanta's ceases to work, and don't seem to realise why.

Its almost like how in my town every area becomes a fortress of bollards and barriers because folk can't be trusted to keep their cars and motorcycles to the appropriate parts of the streets..

@vfrmedia the good thing for sites like @vantablack 's is that I can just allow her site with two clicks in #NoScript.
@vantablack the problem isn't when it doesn't work without javascript. the problem is when the website is not readable without it.
@vantablack using your analogy, I think the argument is that Javascript is MSG. Yes, going without will change the recipe, but there's an argument that in many cases it's an unhealthy additive, and should be avoided if possible. I don't necessarily agree with that argument, but I understand it.
@vantablack I personally don't want to use JavaScript when making my site because it means I can open it more reliably on my stupid old devices :3

JavaScript is pretty cool otherwise, the problem is that companies use it maliciously :p
@vantablack Honestly, JS gets a bad rep because people seem to think the only way you can use it is shoving a hundred megabytes of libraries to show a page of static text. Yeah, you can use JS to write terrible bloated code if you're being paid by the line. But sometimes I want to do things that actually require code to function! Or things that are just a hell of a lot easier when you have JS.

Personally, we try to ensure that our pages fall back gracefully when JS is disabled. Sometimes that's just showing a message to the user that they have to have JavaScript enabled to use the page.

In the case of a page which is primarily text, the text ought to be displayed just fine to a user without JavaScript. A low bar, but it's not hard to clear.
@vantablack it’s like expecting a computer to run without code. Interesting perspective.
@vantablack Your site does work without CSS.

EDIT: And it actually works if both CSS and JS are disabled.
@vantablack hello yes i didnt randomly remove anything i just tried to load the website and it doesnt work
@vantablack i got it to load using a proxy service hey i cant select any text and the toggle colors button does nothing .. what gives??
@vantablack these links dont highlight when i tap on them, or give me any options when i tap and hold them, so i have no way to know there links, or open them in another window, and theres a bunch of broken squares at the bottom.
