We joke about vibe coding but we’re at the tail end of 30 years of vibe management, vibe leadership and vibe capitalization in this industry and we have to solve the real problem.
@mhoye I'm just starting to get the hang of vibe debugging: trying to get a feel for hundreds of lines of log output that are all non-specific default messages from nested exception handlers.
@RonBeavis I know you're joking, but honestly, this is a real problem we need to solve. AI can't fix "our tools and error messages are for the most part garbage."

@mhoye @RonBeavis

I feel this in my soul and have for at least 15 years.

@mhoye

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudge.

@rl_dane Where is the lie though.

@mhoye

ram@Excelsior:~$ cat lie cat: lie: No such file or directory ram@Excelsior:~$
@mhoye we've also seen a lot of vibe resistance, which doesn't seem to work for much compared to building labor power.
@mhoye I remember in the 90s when we looked for code snippets that did what we wanted. Vibe coding is for people without Google Fu. ;-)
@mhoye Marshall McLuhan would like to have a word.

@mhoye the 'V' in VC might as well stand for vibe because I've seen how venture capitalists pick who they fund

It's less well-researched targeted investing and more shotgun approach FOMO with terms so favorable that only one in ten investments needs to take off

@dotjayne "V" stands for "vreconceived viases"?
@dotjayne (I'm thinking back to that time paulg said a bunch of stuff like "I funded him because he looked like zuckerberg", about which I am not joking in the least.)
@mhoye πŸ’― believable. The mirrortocracy in silicon valley fundraising is so bad, it's like a shitty clone wars remake sponsored by Patagonia
@dotjayne I hadn't heard "mirrortocracy" before, but that is a fantastic portmanteau.

@mhoye @dotjayne

So many absolute bangers in this thread

@dotjayne @mhoye oh! I always thought the V meant Vulture...
