Behind the "getting people back to work" lie Victorian concepts of the lazy and workshy, and some nebulous belief in the virtue of working. The disabled just have to "try harder", as though most aren't trying far harder than the able already.

Did you see the piece on #BBCBreakfast this morning, where some random woman made unsubstantiated claims about claimants?

Apparently 'Jill' "thinks change is needed". We're "spending huge amounts of money which this country can't afford... there are a lot of people getting those benefits that perhaps shouldn't be..."

Ah yes, well-known 'expert' Jill...

The #BBC lost its way some time ago. (I mainly put it on for the clock in the corner/local weather forecast.)

I don't doubt Jill thinks she is the voice of reason.

It's terrifying to me that people have such beliefs in the face of no evidence other than what is fundamentally 'gossip' (nonsense on social media or the soundbites of fascists...)

GRRR...

Meantime, a vulnerable family member is terrified of the pervading atmosphere and what potentially lies ahead.
