I have no idea what this is, but if you ever needed a flow chart on how to make Salisbury steak, LOL

#salisburysteak #flowchart #diagram

Hmm, I suspect people in Salisbury, MD would just skip all the steps and use the blast freezer

@ai6yr @Lightfighter Don't even get me started on MIL Spec Pizza
@michaelwaggoner @Lightfighter LOL is there such a thing? Egads
@ai6yr @Lightfighter 20 years and God knows how much money they managed to achieve eternally shelf stable pizza. https://epidemicproof.com/products/2023-mre-meal-23-pepperoni-pizza-slice

MRE PIZZA

MRE PIZZA!

(checks price on MRE PIZZA for the zombie apocalypse stash 🤪 )

@ai6yr @Lightfighter These sites are terrible. If you'd like a tasting I'd suggest finding a small crumby looking surplus store that has piles of ancient gear, that's where you find the good stuff. Very artisanal.
@michaelwaggoner @Lightfighter LOL I have some surplus store MREs... of uncertain vintage. I am still not sure how you tell if it's edible.
@ai6yr @Lightfighter Everything but the Tabasco is almost certainly fine especially if it's been kept inside. The boxes they come in have a special sticker that is supposed to indicate whether they are safe but even then I'd feel comfortable eating anything from within this century.
@michaelwaggoner @ai6yr @Lightfighter Impressive if the *hot sauce* is the most perishable item!
@mattblaze @michaelwaggoner @ai6yr The tobasco just loses all color and flavor
@mattblaze @ai6yr @Lightfighter They used to include civilian Tobasco bottles. Nowadays they have the Army developed stuff in more secure packets. Became less of a priority since most platoons will have at least one guy who never leaves the house without a bottle of Frank's or Texas Pete that they stole from the mess hall
Before you continue to YouTube

@0xF21D @michaelwaggoner @mattblaze @Lightfighter LOL the fact that guy is still alive and not dead of botulism is indeed, proof, that MREs have a very significant shelf life.
@ai6yr @0xF21D @mattblaze @Lightfighter Most microorganisms can't survive the sodium content
@ai6yr @michaelwaggoner @mattblaze @Lightfighter if I’m not mistaken he does inspect a lot of the more iffy MRE’s with a microscope to make sure there’s nothing dangerous growing. You can’t help but both relax with these videos and learn a thing or two about obscure MRE stuff, like the once elusive shelf stable MRE pizza.

@ai6yr @0xF21D @michaelwaggoner @mattblaze @Lightfighter

There's a guy who has an encampment at Slab City, California. He has signs all over the fence, one of which states that "MRE's are delicious".

I will take his word for it.

@michaelwaggoner @mattblaze @ai6yr @Lightfighter or you all get punished and no one has any hot sauce after ONE MRE bomb.

Lol not that this happens...😅

@mattblaze @michaelwaggoner @ai6yr @Lightfighter It's my understanding that the biggest thing that ruins foodstuff kept in perfect storage is oils break down over time just no matter what.

Of course, the stuff with no oils does great. It just frequently is lacking a bit in taste, lol.

I've been doing a bit with mylar bags and oxygen absorbers for emergency storage lately and can definitely say that the simpler something is the more likely it is to keep a long time. Fun fact: normal coffee is horrible due to its oils, but instant coffee of all things can keep practically forever if properly stored, lol. Hey, in an emergency one still needs their coffee!

@mattblaze @michaelwaggoner @ai6yr @Lightfighter
I can't consider Tabasco to be a hot sauce. It's just a cute little bottle of vinegar with the token addition of trace amounts of peppers to sound cool and add a bit of color 😔
@me_valentijn @mattblaze @michaelwaggoner @Lightfighter True, Tabasco has almost no peppers in it. We're a Tapatio household here (which I blame on my son spending too much time at firehouses when in middle and high school... There's a giant bottle of Tapatio at every fire station).

@ai6yr @mattblaze @michaelwaggoner @Lightfighter
We found a Dutch company that does an epic an epic Madame Jeanette hot sauce that somehow gets the full flavor with only moderate heat. And it manages to taste great on scrambled eggs, despite pineapple being the main ingredient 😂

Pineapple Sunshine

@ai6yr @michaelwaggoner When the outer bag inflates and looks like a football.
@Lightfighter @ai6yr Could probably still salvage the dessert though
@ai6yr @michaelwaggoner @Lightfighter maybe I'm just nostalgic but the MREs all sound pretty good to me, id demolish every one of those, like I bet the elbow noodles in tomato sauce tastes better than Chef Boyardee 😄. Of the few I clicked through I didn't see a bottle of Tobasco though, which seems like a miss, everything tastes better with flavor and a little heat
@raven667 @ai6yr @Lightfighter They're mostly fine just kinda bland. I could never get over the appearance of chicken chunks though
