They are purchased as part of a financial game: sell everything and take on debt.

And now the GOP wants to support this even further by adding a tax break in the Trump bill?

Taxpayers must be pleased to support billionaires firing people from companies that were often healthy and had a healthy balance sheet. Until they came.
