From Michael Winter at the West End Phoenix:

Let it be known... That a woman pushed the automatic door opener and carried her bike into the library, then left it propped against the chute for book returns. She went to the counter and asked if she could bring her bike in further. "I've forgotten my lock." ...

... The librarian asked if she'd like to borrow a lock. "You lend out bike locks?" "No, but I have two on my bike." And the librarian went to get the lock.

@cargot_robbie Our library DOES lend out bike locks.
@ObbieZ That's excellent. This little story illustrates that it's a valuable community service that's probably easy to overlook.
@cargot_robbie My local library has bike locks you can borrow, for exactly that situation. I don't know if they're barcoded items you check out on your library card, or just lent out to anyone who's come to the library without their lock whether they have a card or not - I just overheard someone borrowing one, didn't want to be too eavesdrop-y.
