but about the the interoperation - there is a big #pixelfed bug @dansup - which really should be fixed.

Please have at least a look for the bug report what do you think about it.

@joergi @pixelfed @elena That would put the costs of hosting/bandwidth on her, rather than YouTube.

This is geared towards newcomers, I used the privacy friendly YT embed option, this is the best compromise IMO

@elena regarding the post from @dansup - if we want to use the video too on our https://punx.social (an introduction to the fediverse to the punk scene...) is it okay to use your peertube one? or is it okay to host it ourself on peertube.net? (or do you mind uploading it yourself there?)

@dansup thanks for asking Dan! Pinging @jwildeboer who generously uploaded it on his MakerTube account. Could we use « your copy » Jan, so that my little VPS won’t be affected?

Or else Dan feel free to upload a copy on your own PeerTube.

Since that VPS also hosts my Pixelfed, GoToSocial, NextCloud and Friendica, I’d rather spare extra traffic if possible 😅

Doesn't peertube distribute the cost via a bit torrent like strategy? You actually download the data from a swarm of browsers that are watching the video now or similar.

@dansup @joergi @pixelfed @elena my 2 cents here, you can also use Bunny Stream to embed a video without transferring any visitor information to Google and co. Bunny is a European and 100% GDPR compliant company, and they're very cheap (you only pay for the used bandwidth basically, and depending on the mirror locations you wanna create). I personally use it for my clients. Obviously relying on a robust #peertube instance would definitely be more aligned with the content of the video, but yeah there's a cost to pay when escaping from YouTube.
EDIT: I just read the end of this thread and saw that a bigger peertube instance can host it, good news!
