Only two years left of world’s carbon budget to meet 1.5C target, scientists warn

Breaching threshold would ramp up catastrophic weather events, further increasing human suffering

@davidho I mean, that is one way of answering humanities big remaining questions with AI. Nobody said that we'd like the answers
@davidho I think it's funny to imagine we wouldn't have wasted it in all the other ways people refuse to stop burning the stuff.
@davidho this is why the regime fired or cut funding from American Science, to keep us from learning the ways the Earth needs our cooperation to keep us alive.

@davidho

We have already seen 2024 measuring more than 1.5° C above the baseline. January of this year was measured at 1.75° C above (according to Wikipedia). Leadership in every major economy have not taken ANY action that is significant enough to make a dent in the STILL RISING emissions globally. ...and yes, more war.

So, sure - theoretically there might be a tiny window left of the "carbon budget", but how confident do we feel about this scenario turning into reality?

A non-zero possibility that is extremely close to zero is, for all practical discussions, equal to zero.

@davidho two years? nah they'll find a way to burn that in one year.
