well, this is awkward. moreso given the tech savviness of an average fedizen, but still worth a try. who knows, maybe im not the only one buying garbage for shits and giggles.

so i got myself a chinese tablet, one of those fake 8/128 ipads or whatever. specifically a BDF p50 (or as it calls itself in the recovery, a TOSCIDO/T26/T26 versioned 12/SP1A.210812.016/YD120101). it also calls itself the POWMUS BDF, using the "x30_6762_64_s" board (info from AIDA64).

and i bricked it. completely. boot's wiped off, and given its based on a mediatek cpu (mt6762, a lower end 2018 SoC more commonly known as Helio P22), a wiped boot means theres no fastboot and no recovery, so now all i have is the preloader.

there is a dump of allegedly bdf p50 firmware floating online, but applying it to my tablet was, in fact, how i bricked it. so now i need help restoring it to a usable state. anything goes really, as long as it boots into android and i can install apps on it.

device photos for ease of identification included.

the device is live and running an old build of crdroid. thriving even. its new name is revenant
@gravitos are you able to connect via mtkclient?
@hexaheximal it does appear in lsusb so probably yes, lemme try
@hexaheximal yep. my main issue is i have nothing to flash to it
@hexaheximal i did also leave the bootloader unlocked before everything went wrong but given my history with mediakek phones that would not be an issue anyway

@gravitos aha. mt8768t.

that's a well supported chip luckily. hell, while it likely won't work due to dtb differences, I could literally just give you a boot.img (or at least recovery) I have on hand from a tablet I have which uses the same chip

however, I would strongly recommend backing up all of the existing partitions first, and if you have the disk space a full flash backup

@hexaheximal i probably should've done that like four days ago, before overwriting system, boot, vbmeta and dtbo for both slot a and slot b. you know, just a me thing, believing that something called "STOCK FIRMWARE FOR BDF P50.7z" (it was a full flash backup btw) would actually be the stock firmware for my bdf p50
@hexaheximal which tablet do you have anyway? they might literally be the same unit in different shells for all i know, china prints these nuggets like playing cards
@gravitos no, the one I have is actually a samsung galaxy tab a7 lite
@gravitos it's literally the very first thing I do when getting a device supported by mtkclient, because I have been in exactly the position you are in now.
