@MoveTheNeedle when launched it will surpass the current record holder by Australian shipbuilders Incat.
This should be in service late this year. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05-02/incat-launches-worlds-largest-battery-electric-ship-hull096/105243498
World's largest '100 per cent electric' ship launched by Tasmanian builder Incat

Named after a famous Uruguayan actor, the brand new new ship by Tasmanian shipbuilder Incat is said to be the largest fully electric vessel ever built.

@MoveTheNeedle what is crazy though, is to transport cars on a ferry. Leave out the cars, put the cargo on a cargoship. Then you can transport _people_.

Let the passengers hire a car upon arrival if public transport doesn't work for them. #motonormativity

@rrustema I was thinking that myself. Viking is a commercial company though, they'll provide what the market is asking for. My guess is that they carry a lot of commuters on that route. Who think public transport or hiring a car is too much hassle.
@MoveTheNeedle wouldn't a ticket for the ferry become a lot cheaper if the ship operates only for passengers? That should convince customers.

Helsinki-Tallinn route seems to be the best choice for electric ferries, due to a short distance between the ports. Happy to see shipping getting forward in ecology and hope to see the technology evolving!
