CORRECTION FOR THE NEWS VIDEO:

Looks like Denmark's Ministry for Digitization is not in fact moving to Linux right now.
The original interview given by the Danish Ministry said that they planned to move to Linux, but this apparently was a misunderstanding between the Ministry and the outlet.

They've since corrected the article, they're moving to just LibreOffice, but not Linux, at least not in the near future.

Caroline Stage udfaser Microsoft i Digitaliseringsministeriet: "Jeg glæder mig meget til at se, hvordan det fungerer i praksis"

Allerede i næste måned begynder digitaliseringsminister Caroline Stage (M) at drosle ned for brugen af Microsoft i sit ministerium.

@thelinuxEXP actually makes sense. They probably use multiple windows only programs for specific task and not all can be easily run via wine or have any Linux counterparts. And if it works anything like here then it will take multiple public contracts and years to get that one sorted. But good start 👏
@thelinuxEXP is probably sensible, not trying to do both at once. Once everyone’s already on LO it should be a lot easier to do the platform shift
@thelinuxEXP Still in the right step. Changing OS on such a scale is a very bold and terrifying move.
@thelinuxEXP it's definitely a step in the right direction. If only my country would do the same.

@thelinuxEXP OTOH once off the special limited MS application, there's no reason one or more or all users shouldn't be migrated to *nix if the occasion arises.

For instance some application that nobody has ported to Windows yet.

@thelinuxEXP what a party pooper!!
@thelinuxEXP I managed to get access to the original article that reported on it (it's paywalled, I got it through my university)

It seems like the minister who said all of this talked about how the ministry wanted to make sure they "no longer depended on Microsoft" and how they wanted to embrace open source, and so the journalist seemingly (fairly) assumed something about Linux and then (wrongly) wrote it as if it was confirmed

Whenever she said "Microsoft", she meant "Microsoft Office" it would seem

Also btw, there is no mention of Nextcloud. The only thing specified is LibreOffice

@thelinuxEXP Many years in the past, governments announced these plans to convince Microsoft to lower their MSOffice and Windows volume-licensing costs. Steve Ballmer (when he was CEO) would fly to Switzerland, Germany or other places where these things were announced and then start a negotiation.

At least this time I would assume Denmark mean it for real, that they are going to use LibreOffice.

@Arcticulate @thelinuxEXP That's really useful context. Not that I have any information other than this thread about what is going on this time.
@soaproot @thelinuxEXP Yeah, I only listed Germany and Switzerland because I *think* they were two examples of negotiating countries, but I don’t have any documents or articles to link to right now. Should be able to find some Ballmer stories examples online, though.
@thelinuxEXP Salut Nick, t'est pas le seul à être tombé dans le panneau, tout les youtubers/chroniqueurs que je suis ont relayé la même nouvelle. C'est à se demander si c’était voulu de la part de ce gouvernement🤔
@thelinuxEXP did microsoft just opened a new headquarter in denmark?
@thelinuxEXP still the better move. Instead of linux and then missing MS office. First move to all FLOSS tools and then change the OS.
@thelinuxEXP Read it, and yes a misunderstanding between the Ministry and the News (outlet) paper Politiken.
@thelinuxEXP that's a pitty. At there's a switch to LibreOffice.
@thelinuxEXP I wish I could @ the ministry. Boooo! Pity they aren't going full opensource. But LibreOffice is a good start!
