Did you find a post from a follower that you really liked? If so, just boost it. That way other people have the opportunity to like it too.
It's such a simple thing and many gloss over it.
With non-algorithmic posts here, it's the only way it will show up for new people as there's no promotion or advertising.

Like it, boost it, pass it on.
So simple. So Fedi.

Can't say it didn't work.
@FreakyFwoof Interesting. Your post only shows 65 boosts here. Would that have something to do with the server i'm on not detecting all the content out there?
@jessewienholts Very possibly. The way fediverse works is strange and unknown at the best of times, or so it seems.
@FreakyFwoof I've had the feeling I am missing some of the content when viewing hashtags as well. I might switch servers at some point.
@FreakyFwoof for some reason, the word Booste makes me very very very angry, where as RT, never did. Booste in my booste post booste booste booste all day long.
@ednun_p Well don't eat boost chocolate then. And I will not use the word 'retoot' other than in this sentence.
@FreakyFwoof I like booste bars. I used to buy at least 3 of them each time I went into the local corner shop when I lived in my other house. Back then I was young and didn't get as fat as easily. Also those bars were all dusty and had probably been there since the shop opened in 1926 or something.
@ednun_p @FreakyFwoof Found this slightly funny because here, Boost Bars are an anti-anxiety medicine.
@ednun_p @FreakyFwoof I totally get that, but the alternative, which I won't even write here, is even worse and more angry making.
@BorrisInABox @FreakyFwoof it is now, but back then it never bothered us.

@ednun_p @FreakyFwoof toot better?

TOOT! TOOT!

@tootbrute @FreakyFwoof Toot toot is fine, but, my 1 year old son has these toy cars called toot toot drivers and they sing a little tune which starts with toot toot. so that is going to seem very odd LOL.
@FreakyFwoof this is why i boost so mutch, mabey a little to mutch at times lol
@FreakyFwoof but only if the post you like is public. :)
@austinnix @FreakyFwoof and has alt text for media.

@FreakyFwoof

So many noteworthy posts disappear into the ether because of this practice of only favouriting (or downright ignoring) instead of boosting. Certain large accounts are especially notorious. Is it due to snobbism?

@appassionato @FreakyFwoof Or is it merely that people don't know when they should favourite vs boost? To be honest I'm probably on the other extreme - sometimes I boost and then wonder if I should've maybe favourited instead.

@daygar @FreakyFwoof

While favourites are always pleasing to see, they do NOT make a one single person more to see the post. Is it clear now?

@appassionato @FreakyFwoof So when should we use favourites, if ever? Should we always aim to boost instead?

@daygar @FreakyFwoof

No. Only if you deem it worthy of passing on.

@appassionato @FreakyFwoof I suspect at least some of these large accounts (particularly those purported to be from someone relatively famous) are run by social media teams (who also still post to X and Meta) rather than the individual they claim to be as a marketing exercise, and they are wary of boosting stuff for fear of not being in line with "brand image"..
@vfrmedia @appassionato That unfortunately makes a lot of sense...
@FreakyFwoof I do that though not necessarily with all I like, mainly the ones which really stand out, strike a chord etc.
@FreakyFwoof I want to make a fedibopit now. See it! Boost it! Pass it!
@cachondo OO that'd make a fun AudioMo wouldn't it?
@FreakyFwoof @cachondo Or even like sum Bop it game, but Mastodon.
@FreakyFwoof there is no such thing as overliking and overboosting, especially on a site with no algorythm in play.
@FreakyFwoof I want a T shirt with those two last sentences on it
@FreakyFwoof Sadly however, some people silence boosts. I admit, guilty as charged on a by user basis, but your pointstill stands.
