Let's Address This with Qasim Rashid

@QasimRashid

Pls talk a bit more about 'your lawyer'.

One imagines many going to stand up for democracy but not having a lawyer on retainer or in their address book, let alone memorized.

@QasimRashid First things first: DO not protest against faschist/autocratic leaders in their country.

@QasimRashid Also, 1) write your lawyer’s # on a slip of paper or in sharpie on your body if you might forget it. The National Lawyers Guild or your local bar association may provide free legal support. NLG has local affiliates with hotlines (nlg.org). Find yours before heading out.
2) Do not take photos of any protestor’s face without their consent.
3) Be aware of your surroundings, particularly police lines forming behind you and to your sides.

@QasimRashid I strongly recommend NOT taking your smart phone to a protest. Leave it at home but do NOT turn it off there. If you have to bring some kind of phone for emergency communication, bring a dumb phone that you normally don't use. Doesn't have to be a burner - but it has to be a dumb phone that doesn't have all your past life recorded on it. If you need to record the events, bring a camera instead of a smart phone.
@QasimRashid clear & concise.
Thank you!
@QasimRashid “It was never about immigration. It was never about rule of law. It was always about advancing white supremacy. “MAGA” always meant a return Jim Crow America, and this week proved it once again. We need unity against this fascism, as that is the only way any of us survive this.”

Re: Rule 1, my wife is a LPR and I’m torn on participating. It’s frustrating because the fear of participating is why I need to participate and not participating is giving them just what they want. I failed this time but for next time and i being overly cautious?
