With everything going on in LA right now it's just so difficult to figure out who the good guys are in this situation. If only there were, like, a really good movie I could watch that would make a super obvious analogy, like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Robin Hood, Braveheart, V for Vendetta, Indiana Jones, A Bugs Life, Snowpiercer, Ben Hur, 1984, MacBeth, Saving Private Ryan, The Matrix, American History X, Dead Poets Society, Schindler's List, Captain America, Casablanca, District 9, Come and See, Inglorious Basterds, Minority Report, Dune, Pan's Labyrinth, Sound of Music, Les Miserables, Harry Potter, Elysium, Gattaca, The LEGO Movie, Blues Brothers, Cheech and Chong, Barbie Movie, Oppenheimer, Planet of the Apes, Zone of Interest, Watchmen, Hunger Games, or Wicked. But it would be even better if there were like a whole TV show about it, like Andor, Handmaid's Tale, The Man in the High Castle, Game of Thrones, the Boys, Firefly, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, ....

FACT

all the star wars nerds who are fascist curious right now are especially disgusting

@samiamsam @Lana I remember Games Workshop having to issue a statement regarding Warhammer 40K basically saying “guys, you are not supposed to idolize the Imperium of Man. Every faction in the setting is horrible in their own way”.
@Lana Tbh a lot of people suffer from cognitive dissonance from media. Not to mention their reading comprehension is shit. If you press them, they’ll say it’s just a movie/make believe, not to be taken seriously. Bottom line, we can’t make people think. Even if there are obvious cookie crumbs all over, most people can’t/ don’t want to connect the dots because that feels like too much mental work. No wonder AI is so popular. They want someone else to think for them.

@Lana

The Cheech and Chong inclusion is chef's kiss

@Lana Babylon 5 and The Newsroom come to mind too

@michaelaubert @Lana yeah the Newsroom isn't perfect by any means but it's simple existence does drive me loopy sometimes.

Like, it's not even analogy. You don't need to unpick any clever parallels.

They literally pointed directly at the actual real world thing, with receipts, and went ‘maybe don't? how about don't?’.

But did even a single person get anything from it?

Apparently not.

@Lana And that's it for fiction - although I suspect you left some out. Then there is a whole, awesome field of real-world study called history.
@Lana Definitely feels like we’re heading for Elysium.

@Lana

add Wag the Dog and Dr. Strangelove

if you haven't seen them, watch
