@Brokar @molly0xfff I'm all for acknowledging that sentiment and then figuring out how to move past it in a way which doesn't give up but also doesn't wear us down. I could elaborate on my own coping and action strategies but my main point is to find some, rather than think you can deeply engage with all the bad things and get anywhere other than self destruction.

As I posted in the blog comments, I can't imagine being in a position to not care about what is going on in politics. I'm documenting the Trump administration's actions on @wikipedia so future generations (or extraterrestrials) can see where and why things went wrong.

With the help of Perplexity, other AI tools, I'm trying to add some helpful statements to obtuse, unintuitive 😕 #Wikidata. Alas, seeing some of my work being undone - not corrected or tweaked, but undone.😕😡
Also, I've had interesting, productive AI chats about how to make Wikidata suck less. I really want Wikidata Ontologizer™😉 data entry app.

It might be helpful actually to see this as a defense mechanism. The brain realizing it just cannot consider that reality without being destroyed, so it "doesn't care."

@molly0xfff I've personally taken a hiatus from most political news for the sake of my mental health. I figure it's all the same bad stuff, so corruption and cronyism from the fascists in power rarely surprise me. I guess I would say I'm cynical, but only in a certain qualified sense. I still read your newsletter and have RSS subscriptions to a select few publications that I think are worth paying attention to. I also do archiving. So I'm not exactly throwing in the towel and resigning myself.

I cannot fathom how anyone, even very cynical people, could think saying "who cares, it doesn't matter" is even worth the effort to type. Like, do they really want that to become a self-fulfilling prophecy? Because that's precisely what they're advocating.

You can classify this as giving up and saying it doesn’t matter but I am tired of fighting and it feels like it doesn’t matter.

The trouble is, I have no idea how one changes things such that all that documentation can be put to effective use. I don't want to sit around and just hope for heroes, yet we're so far gone that no normal tactic seems to apply,

I'll fully admit, I'm too naturally anxious to fight on the front lines myself. But I want to help, if I knew what helping the actual change happen looked like beyond "donate money and hope it's neither a scam nor puts you on a list".
