This is unfortunate

AI chat in Xcode seems to be gated by region

Is there a list of regions somewhere?

@jaanus 🤦‍♂️ Maybe Kalevipoeg should pay a visit to Tim Cook
@jaanus If you’re dying to use it, you can install ollama and have Xcode talk to that. Not only is that not geofenced but it also means you aren’t making network requests.

@jaanus

Did you figure what regions it is locked for? Seriously worried they will lock this out within EU!

@simonnyberg no I did not check any further

I just know it is disabled for me in 🇪🇪 right now

@jaanus Hi Jaanus, fyi, here in Austria Xcode’s Intelligence feature is working, not geo-fenced.
@jaanus Did you install 26 on an external disk?
@softmaus yes. Separate bootable SSD plugged in via USB-C
@jaanus afair it needs Apple Intelligence enabled to work and sadly, that’s not allowed for external disks.

@softmaus interesting

Is this documented anywhere?

@jaanus Sorry, I can't remember where I read it. I assumed it to be true because it was the same for Xcode's predictive code completion last year.
@softmaus yeah anyway that would explain why neither Xcode AI nor new Foundation Models are not working for me 😕
@jaanus Same for me. Maybe https://gist.github.com/Willian-Zhang/c34861d2010414bd972f48d32d8d7006 will get updated soon. I'm not yet willing to install Tahoe to an APFS container on the internal volume.

@jaanus Seems like we’re probably out of luck https://tauri.earth/@AliveDevil/114670981611351500

@felix_schwarz@mastodon.social Probably direct NVMe/PCIe GPU memory mapped storage. Doesn't work with USB-C?

Ta'Uri

@softmaus thank you

That makes sense, I guess

It is unfortunate that AFAIK there is zero information from Apple on these requirements
