Okay, wow. So I got my black back. I used the tips from https://printheadhospital.com/2023/04/26/how-to-clean-the-printer-head

Since my black was entirely gone, it was likely trapped wind. Sorry, I mean air. So I made sure there were no bubbles in the cleaning syringe, pushed through 1ml, then gently shook the cartridge side to side while the syringe was attached to the inlet. Then I made sure to put the cart back in immediately after removing the syringe to prevent any more air getting in. It seemed to do the trick with the black anyway.

How to clean inkjet printer heads - Printhead Hospital

Printers use rapid-drying ink so block up unless used regularly. Learn about the different methods to clean the printer head

After a few nozzle checks, I've got to this. So now my magenta is patchy, even though I never touched it and it was fine before the clean. Man I hate this printer sometimes. Next step is to try printing a few pages of solid magenta and seeing if it clears itself. I don't want to have to do an automatic printhead clean as it usually causes more blockages 🤷🏽‍♀️ and I definitely do not want to manual flush if I can help it. #inkjet #printers #epson

Yay! Guess what time of the week it is!

Cleaning printer nozzles day!

I don't get this printer. The day before I had to print my tickets, I did a nozzle check, all colours were perfect. So the next day, I went to print my tickets and was left with this mess (see first pic).

After doing a nozzle check, I still had colour, but black was almost all gone.

How did it go weeks without clogging, and then go from fully clean to almost totally blocked black overnight?

I'm wondering if it might be this particular ink I'm using. I have a refill kit and maybe pigment ink is more prone to clogging than dye? I don't know. All I know is this printer needs a heck of a lot of cleaning, and I only tolerate it because it's so good at printing at a tiny scale.

By the way, the cleaning kit I use is from Printhead Hospital. They're a small business, so I'm happy to give them a free shoutout.

They have really good customer service (once I couldn't unblock my black even after two manual flushes and they told me a different trick to use, saving my printer) and their kit has worked really well for me and is the reason I haven't thrown this printer out the window.*

*I wouldn't really do that, because electronic waste should be disposed of responsibly.

Anyway, miraculously, the black is giving a full nozzle check straight after flushing, but now the other colours have patchy bits. I was kinda expecting this. Usually this happens and I'll leave it overnight and the nozzle check comes out clear the next day.

Well, that lasted long. Black has already clogged up again. I have never had such a problematic printer. Honestly, I don't know if it's these refillable cartridges, the type of ink or if the #printer itself just sucks. I've just had to do ANOTHER manual flush of black. It's clear for now, but now I have patches in the colours. Frick's sake.

What the actual heck, I swear, this printer is going to drive me to insanity.

I managed to get two pages printed out. I thought that since the printer is cooperating for now, I'd find a nice background picture for my niece's cake shop, if I ever make it, so at least I've got it printed and ready.

And not even an hour after a clear nozzle check, the yellow printhead is now clogged.

Hmm, so the issue might be air getting trapped in the nozzles. That would explain why the colours usually clear themselves when left overnight. The black being pigment ink could explain why it's clogging so easily, especially if I'm getting air in there too. Man this is so complicated 😮‍💨

From this to this overnight. The moment I actually need to print something important, the black dies. Frick's sake.

It must be the pigment ink. Is it worth buying normal dye ink for the black refill ink?
