We can still go for a jog or go hunt our own deer, but for reaching the stars we, the Apes do what Apes do best: Use tools to build on our cognitive abilities. AI is a tool.

@n_dimension How refreshing to see such a well-thought, reasoned response to neo-Luddite #AI hysteria. As a synthesis of *human* (written, largely English-language) #knowledge, I like to think of #LLMs as augmented #intelligence.

@n_dimension a sometimes tool for sure. At least if we can crack the energy and other problems, like assuming it is more than fantastic pattern matching, etc.

The "Massive energy demand of AI" is 103 Million tons of CO2.
That's 0.2% of global emissions budget.
It's not negligible, but it's a rounding error vs the top 10.

The greatest threat from #AI is humans who misuse it.
Job losses and ideologues like Musk who "Dewokefy" AI.
The only thing worse than a cold, heartless machine is
A fascist cold, heartless machine.
But as I've said, neither the pro nor anti AI camps have the slightest desire to #regulateAI.
