Sorry, is this 👇 a healthy ecosystem? Where fedi posts on other instances only come through as a title + web link?? Someone thought that microblogging nodes couldn't handle an excerpt with thumbnails???

Even RSS gives the reader more.

I had to copy this link out of the Mastodon UI into a browser location bar to even see that it was a forum post.

Who on Earth writes software like this where you ignore the UX of 95% of the users (Mastodon) who will encounter the content?

So we're in this place, after how many years of fluffing this stuff, where ActivityPub nodes default to representing other nodes' content worse than RSS would... unless the content is flagged as 100% matching the content type of the users' home node. 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️

@tasket pawb.social is a Lemmy instance, and it looks like this is a top-level post for a conversation. In this particular case, the user at the top of the conversation is posting an external link to the group for discussion.

I agree that this absolutely needs to be better.

Pawb.Social - LGBTQ+ communities for furries by furries.

@deadsuperhero I didn't pick the best example, as the body contains only one sentence. But I'm not even getting that sentence and all of the longer posts also only appear with a title + link.
