The Grottenherten tower windmill (in Bedburg/ Rhine-Erft district) stands on an artificial hill. From the ‘platform’ on which the mill stands, the cap with the sails is moved by the beams in order to set the optimum wind direction. At 27 metres long, the wings are among the largest ever.
There were around 180 days a year when the wind and weather allowed the mill to grind, sometimes even at night.
More photos, also from inside the mill, will follow.
