New computer with Windows pre-installed? Want to install #Linux 🐧 instead?

You pay for #Windows, even if you don’t use it. That’s unfair and non-transparent.

#Refund4Freedom from @fsfe & @ItaLinuxSociety defends your right to get refunds for unused pre-installed software! 😎

https://refund4freedom.org/

The campaign starts in #Italy 🇮🇹 but will later be extended.

FSFE & ILS support your right to choose your operating system. They also support #EndOf10 to prevent e-waste!

Did it years ago. Asked to refund win on few asus eeebox computers. It was something like $3 per licence. :>

The official price for a W11 HOME retail license is 139USD
See here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/d/windows-11-home/dg7gmgf0krt0

The current OEM OS license policy is badly skewed in favor of Microsoft.
By design, of course.

We must get to a point where even OEMs charge the true retail amount for a retail Windows license on top of their hardware, so that more people will consider other OS alternatives.

@retrocomputing @Endof10 and yet I wouldn’t use it if it were free

@Endof10 @fsfe @ItaLinuxSociety didn't we do all this before, quarter of a century ago...?

Honestly, if you just get a used computer, even a model from years ago, its performance with Linux will be faster than with Windows on the latest hardware. And cost extremely little.
