@skua I was cycling through the suburb one cold winter’s morning in the far south of Canberra. There was a pea soup fog where visibility was substantially less than 20 metres. A kangaroo appeared suddenly to my forward left side (coming out of a side street).
I would have been going 35kmh (by my estimation) as it was slightly downhill. I breaked like a madman and only just kept the bike upright while the back tyre was skidding left then right. The roo, jumping as if it was any other day, passed in front of me and the end of its tail landed three centimetres to the right of my front wheel.
That was the closest I have been to being taken out by a roo. It made no noise until it hopped on the road and its toe nails scraped on the road surface.
