Alright, what can it hurt. Seriously. Free to a good home, one well trained tradesperson, capable of building a new home from the ground up, or restoring something 200 years old.( we don't have much that old, much less older, here) Pretty much any trade, although my plastering skills might be in need of honing. . . Open to any better situation than the current one. I try not to ask for much, but if you know where this might get some attention, please, boost away.
#Fedihire
I'm not kidding in the slightest sense, I will go anywhere in the world that will have me. I can bring tools or replace them when I get there. I don't need much. Meals. A roof. Health care. Willing to train my replacements, after all, can't live forever.
@chrisnelsonsdog I would normally never recommend someone come to Florida, but… there is a huge demand for most trades here thanks to the constant post-hurricane rebuilds plus the somehow still growing influx of people moving here. If FL is at all on your radar, I can send out some feelers.
@mycrowgirl somewhere greener somewhere warmer, it fits.
@chrisnelsonsdog I will put out feelers and let you know if I get any promising hits :)
@mycrowgirl thank you Lisa, I really do appreciate it. Being on the other end of the snowbird trail, I actually have a couple possibilities there. I guess if it gets really bad I could find a rubber raft and paddle to Cuba. . .
Thank you all for the boosts, and please, keep them coming. I don't want to sound greedy. I'm not trying to get rich. I would like to eat every day, sleep somewhere dry, and pass on what I know. That's all. And be safe, and reasonably assured that nobody is going to kick in my door in the middle of the night. That sounds like paradise right about now, so .if you know where it is, and think maybe they need a maintenance person. . .
@chrisnelsonsdog 💜 I'm really sorry to hear things are that bad right now. I really hope you find something decent, a place and job where you can be happy.
@dillyd I just need a change of scenery, and a better opportunity. I'll find something if I keep at it. Thanks Val!
@chrisnelsonsdog
Har. That's actually tempting if I had money. As in, move anywhere in the world and fix up fixer uppers for room and board? I'd guess that someone else would have to keep track of the bureaucratic details that vary around the world...
that's what I'm doing now, just in one area. I just want to go somewhere where I can make a difference, pass on my skills, and relax when I'm done.
I can stutter my way through a bit of German, and enough Spanglexmerican to communicate with the carpenters. I learn fast, moreso under pressure.
if you have followed me for any length of time here, you've seen my work. If you haven't, I've got ~plenty~ of pictures. Please ask. Because yeah, I really can do that too, and like I said, I've got pictures.
obviously, opportunities in Mediterranean climates go to the top of the stack, should there happen to be said stack. ( Two is a stack , right? help an old guys ego out here, twos a stack)

@chrisnelsonsdog I follow the Fedihire hashtag, hence saw your post that way.

My landlords basically make a living by buying fixer uppers, fixing them, then renting them out - some longterm, some as AirBnBs. They have at least a dozen, and their schtick is to do all the maintenance/repair work themselves (and as landlords they're fast and responsive to issues). But, not sure how well that qualifies as "make a difference." In New Zealand the .. uh, ambience ... is different from in the US, and entrepreneurial things like that are a lot more encouraged and supported here.

Then my next thought was Habitat for Humanity, but I'd guess you've looked into them already (and possibly need to make a living and not just be a volunteer).

@mwt my apologies for ating you in those responses, it's been a long day. I do basically the same here, we're getting a small burst of growth from some local construction, and the property values are skyrocketing. It won't last, and when it's over I won't be able to afford property here. Hence the urge to evacuate.
@mwt @chrisnelsonsdog Have you tried NGOs? I don‘t know how many paid jobs they offer but I imagine they may need someone like you to get things fixed and train local people somewhere in the world.
@chrisnelsonsdog Honestly, this is how the world should work.

@chrisnelsonsdog

Where are you based?

@AlienAnomaly US, but very willing to change that, in fact, it's kind of the point

@chrisnelsonsdog

This might be a bit out there, but if you made it to the Isle of Skye you’d have enough work to last a lifetime.

@AlienAnomaly I've heard that before, and legends of free houses for those who will maintain them, but it's like trying to grab a handful of fog.
@AlienAnomaly if you have knowledge of an actual opportunity on said Isle, I have a backpack, and will have a passport shortly. I'll swim if I have to.

@chrisnelsonsdog

Painful though it is to use Fb, try some Isle Of Skye groups there.

There are tons of people looking for general trades on a more or less daily basis.

@AlienAnomaly id rather stick my head in a vise than use fb. Any other options?
@chrisnelsonsdog I hope you find an incredible new job!
@chrisnelsonsdog there are supposed to be some places in Europe, where they actually pay people to move if they will build a place to live and maintain it. Please do some research, as you may have a better deal than you think.
@Blueteamsherpa that and Smurfs are about as easy to find as each other.
@chrisnelsonsdog #STL may have opportunities at the moment...
@JW I'm not sure I understand correctly, but that seems to be Midwest US? That's exactly what I am wanting to get away from. . .

@chrisnelsonsdog

Big hug, Chris. You're so very talented! I hope you find a new gig in a great place soon. 🥰

@TheEddieShow thanks Eddie, gotta at least try
@chrisnelsonsdog We’d have lots of work for you in the PNW.
@colorblindcowboy I'm listening

@chrisnelsonsdog oh, we just bought an old place out in Gray’s Harbor, Washington. Everything out here is old, btw — there’s no new construction.

We need to have stuff done to the place, a 1920s Dutch Colonial.

@colorblindcowboy the PNW is someplace I have always wanted to visit. The scenery is breathtaking. How's the cost of living? Can a tradesperson actually survive there?
@chrisnelsonsdog The cost of living out here is pretty low, though utilities are somewhat high (small area). The area struggles a bit, but there is money and a lot of tradespeople. And they always seem to be busy. Check out Aberdeen, Hoquiam, and Cosmopolis.
@chrisnelsonsdog aren’t you in Virginia? I’ll be needing a new deck in the near future.
@DrSuzanne Ohio, but travel is ok.
@chrisnelsonsdog if you have any interest in coming down to build me a deck, I’d hire you. Not sure if it’s worth your time though?
@chrisnelsonsdog Boosting, but... what nation? What part of the nation?
@guyjantic currently Midwest USA
@chrisnelsonsdog Oh, OK. I think I'm a bit outside your scope (Western NY), but if you swing through this region, PM me and I'll see if I can tell my (admittedly not numerous) local facebook friends.
@guyjantic I've been to the city once, but I've heard the rest of the state is much nicer. If I get that way, I'll definitely give you a shout! And Thank you!
@chrisnelsonsdog what country and region ?
@chrisnelsonsdog really wish I could help but the UKs Visa stuff is a mare 😑 I hope you find something great soon ❤️ I will keep my eyes open also.

@Thayer @chrisnelsonsdog But if options are limited it might be worth considering! “Construction and building trades supervisors” are on the UK skills shortage list.

@DawnBlackbirds @chrisnelsonsdog if you find something that looks useful exploring in the UK you're welcome to stay with me the first week or so to get you set up!
@Thayer @DawnBlackbirds thank you, that is a very kind offer!
@chrisnelsonsdog good luck finding something that suits you.
