Mabuhay! Celebrating Filipino Heritage Month! πŸ‡΅πŸ‡πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ 1of2

June is officially #FilipinoHeritage month here in Canada, a vibrant time to celebrate the incredible contributions of #FilipinoCanadians!

ICYMI: I was born in the Philippines but raised here in Canada so I'm fluent in both English and Tagalog, with some (college level) Spanish and (elementary) French learned along the way.

From coast to coast, the rich spirit of Filipino culture shines brightly in Canada. Filipinos truly love to entertain friends, always making family feel extra special. Karaoke? It’s a must! And food? It’s absolutely a love language!

Filipino Heritage 2of2

Personally, I love cooking nutritious regional dishes (more info in comments) like "pinakbet" for my family. I don't often post about it because my culinary world is so wonderfully diverse, influenced by friends, family, and even past partners.

Being mixed-race myself (Portuguese, Spanish, Italian) has also shaped my understanding of #multiculturalism, something I've experienced firsthand as a #ThirdCultureKid #TCK i.e. someone raised in a culture different from their parents' or their country of nationality.

This month, let's learn more about the diverse heritage, traditions, and achievements of Filipino Canadians. Try a new dish, listen to the music, connect with friends!

Let's use this month to honour the past, celebrate the present, and build an even more welcoming future together! What are your favourite things about Filipino culture? Share below! πŸ‘‡

Pinakbet is an Ilocano dish but there are other versions with pork and there's also other variations like Pinakbet Tagalog. Recipe below
