There's a Chinese idiom 拋磚引玉.
It literally means throwing a brick to attract jade. It's a self depreciating expression to mean the first person does a rough thing to get the ball rolling. For example you're making poetry as a group and the first person makes a few rough lines in hopes it inspires some well polished verses.
But for pride, the idiom carries a much deeper meaning. May all the thrown bricks attract the well deserved jade.
