I'm back from the denturist. He said my gums are getting damaged by the current immediate dentures & obtaining fixed ones would help with that & with eating more foods. The fixed dentures aren't as expensive as immediates were but they are still costly & not covered by my pharmacare. I am a disabled death doula/death care aide, working on independent contracts basis & have no additional health insurance coverage. I was slowly saving up for fixed dentures but had to use the $260 saved for unexpected medical costs for me & Mom's recent downturns in health last month.

These are the costs I was quoted today, for getting full set of fixed dentures made with the related costs that I'm #fundraising for:

X-rays, casting & full fixed dentures set - $1650

I tried to get 2 extended family members to ask people on their social networks (FB & IG addicts) to help me out. I got shut down. I was told that if I worked harder - I'd not be asking strangers or them for any help. I guess he forgot how many people here had helped all of our families & did that for over a decade. I'm so upset & trying not to take his shit personally. I work harder than that uncle AND his wife, combined.

I'm so upset but am not going to engage further with my heartless uncle right now.

I'm heading to work now. Longer day of split shift. 9:30am-3:30pm & 5:30pm-9:30pm. I only got 2 hours of my therapy homework done this morning & have to finish up last bits after work tonight. I have tomorrow off & a friend is taking me out mini golfing & for a nature walk too. It will be a fun & uplifting outing for both of us ❤️ We haven't seen each other in a couple of months & have loads to catch up on.

@giflian I don't know any local denturists who are accepting it - called 18 places because my denturist says it only applies for some folks but most others can't get dentures coverage. The government hasn't been very clear with dentists, denturists & patients alike.

I've had enough trouble with the provincial system and medications, with pharmacists and doctors having different understandings of new policies.

@giflian It's all really stressful. I'm doing some pretty intense therapy right now too so am trying to be gentle with myself. It's difficult to not feel panic when you're working disabled & financially insecure. I hide my stress from my Mom because she worries enough already.

@giflian I have almost full.coverage for dentist appointment coming up - for my damaged gums. I'm paying only $60 out of pocket & rest is covered. But I have zero coverage for getting fixed dentures.

@giflian This is why several people try to survive with no dentures at all & use only gums to try to eat. Many people with less mutual support than I do, suffer for a long time because dentures are too costly & they can't afford any. It really should be fully included in dental coverage but it is not fully covered. I was hoping they'd be covered with federal government changes. I was very disappointed.

@stagerabbit E-transfer is best, if people have Canadian bank accounts - no extra fees for me. PayPal direct is best for folks outside of Canada. Kofi is good except they take funds away from fundraisers & it's about $5 per every $50 donation. I actually stopped using Gofundme because the fees they took harmed my past fundraisers.
