So 85% of the Komoot employees were fired by the new owners (which is their usual thing - they have done it at their other acquisitions as well - buying random SaaS products, fire everyone and then squeeze out the last Pennie’s from the product without investing into new things). What a shame… Enshitification is around the corner.

@recollir How often does something like this need to happen until people understand that building your $service on the top of #opensource and #opendata can prevent exactly this effect? When someone comes along and buys the $service, at the point where #enshittification is around the corner, you just fork and move along.

@dreiwert Yes, I agree. The greatest superpower of open * is forkability. The threat of a fork prevents BDFLs from becoming actual dictators, and defangs corporate killer acquistions.

If you can't fork it, it's not open.
