If you're using an android phone you need this:

I have been on the lookout for a sensible Gboard replacement that wasn't making my (voice) typing experience painful, and so far only FUTO Keyboard managed to provide that.

It has really good offline voice typing as well, which is something I use a lot.

I can not recommend this enough!

FUTO Keyboard

FUTO Keyboard is a modern, privacy-focused keyboard that runs fully offline. Enjoy swipe typing, autocorrect, predictive text, and more鈥攏o internet connection required.

@unfa heliboard + whisper (F-Droid) is also a nice combo!
@unfa There is whisper on F-droid as well.
@tusharhero For me models provided by FUTO Keyboard are a couple times faster than anything else I tried on Android. They have found some way to speed them up tremendously at negligible quality loss. I did use FUTO Voice Input with FlorisBoard for a while, but lack of swipe typing was a big issue for me. FUTO Keyboard does it all, does it very well and I can trust it. First time since I ditched Gboard that I am no longer looking around for something better.
@unfa What am I missing? Futo or Futo Keyboard returns nothing in F-Droid.
@tzudad
@unfa you need to add their own f-droid repo: https://app.futo.org/fdroid/repo/

@mdkcore @unfa Duh 馃ぁ
Added the repo, installed the keyboard and the voice input, works perfect. Thanks for RTFM for me!
@tzudad @unfa It is not Free software, so its not on F-droid.

@pbeccard @tusharhero @tzudad Yeah, they are not using GPL licenses, FUTO is looking to improve upon what they think is not working out so great for FOSS users and developers especially.
I think there's some merit to that. FOSS projects are notoriously ubderfunded and often upheld by someone who feels coerced into maintaining it rather than enjoying it.
Especially when corporate world stands on their libraries but they get no help at all. I believe there must be something better we can do.
@unfa @tusharhero @tzudad You have a point. I just wish they would have an exit plan that would transition the project to a foss licence in case of e.g. they stop maintaining it.
@[email protected] Because the license doesn't allow commercial use, it technically isn't free software. so it's not on f-droid

@Haijo7 @unfa I got it for personal use and don't know anything about commercial. Another user helped me add the FUTO F-Droid Repo to the F-Droid app. The keyboard and voice input add-on installed and work great.

@tzudad They have their own repository for F-droid. You need to add their repo first:

https://app.futo.org/fdroid/repo/

Or you can install from Google Play (if nothing else works).

@unfa Thanks a lot for the recommendation! I never used voice typing, but i've just tried it with English, French, and Finnish and it seems to work well!

But to me, the game changer features are:

* Multi-lingual dictionnaries: no need to switch languages when writing to different people, or mid-sentence for untranslatable words
* De-correlated language from keyboard layout: No more switching between AZERTY, QWERTY, and Nordic QWERTY when switching languages
* A swipe feature that seems a bit more reliable than what I'm used to
* Open source and yet still a good UX

My wife had been complaining about Samsung's keyboard for years, to the point she was contemplating changing phone altogether, but she already fell in love with FUTO.

Anyway, I wholeheartedly would recommend it to anyone! Thanks again!
