Musk destroyed the US civil service, abruptly cancelled aid programs around the world, killing people and damaging US soft power. His teams stole data, harmed science, broke the law. "I was on drugs and had family issues" is not an excuse

Elon Musk Juggled Drugs and Family Drama on Trump’s Campaign Trail

As Mr. Musk entered President Trump’s orbit, his private life grew increasingly tumultuous and his drug use was more intense than previously known.

The New York Times
@anneapplebaum is that a confession?

@anneapplebaum Not signed in on this machine but: Who caused the “family drama” HMMMMM?

“I have a bunch of problems that I caused, so I should be forgiven for these murders that I also caused”

@nirak @anneapplebaum My thoughts exactly - he was busy creating drama, not responding to it.
And basically creating drama wherever he went, in his personal and professional life alike.
Because of him, the whole world needs rehab.
@anneapplebaum I was on drugs and abused my family, so I decided to start World War III so that my accomplices and servants would move to Mars with me.
@anneapplebaum
And saved the US people less than Chump spent golfing in his first presidential term
Remind me to use that excuse the next time I'm in trouble. "I'm sorry. I was on drugs and had family issues." That should get me off the hook, eh, @anneapplebaum ?

@DoomsdaysCW @anneapplebaum

What makes it even worse though was Musks' denouncing of traditional therapy and saying things like "I didn't want to do illegal drugs" (and then doing them anyways). I'm pretty sure he never seriously tried doing things the right way.

The excuse in "joke" format is more like:
"I'm sorry. I was doing drugs but I had issues and didn't want to do therapy"

Just a hollow excuse from Musk though, because I highly doubt he will lift a finger to revert any damage done.

@Kayo @DoomsdaysCW @anneapplebaum thats what you get when world (industry) leaders' actions are so disconnected from consequences that they never need to learn from their mistakes.

Its often framed as a meritocracy but its worse, types as Musk never need to deal into their inner demons because they don't face any material consequences anyway.

@anneapplebaum Elon called empathy "the fundamental weakness of Western civilization". Who thinks he'll try to weaponize it for his own benefit?

@leeolds

🎯🎯🎯🎯
He just did!

But I’d forgive him if he’ll admit to his role in rigging the vote count in Pennsylvania like trump said he did.

@anneapplebaum

@anneapplebaum Imagine telling your boss, ‘Sorry I tanked the project, I was high and going through stuff.’

Pretty sure the exit interview would be… brief.

@khurtwilliams @anneapplebaum Are you referring to cybertruck designers?
@anneapplebaum Timothy Snyder perfectly encapsulated the billionaire mindset in his book "On Freedom": "There are things so idiotic that you need $10 billion to believe them." (page 204)
@anneapplebaum Lock him up. Permanent exile to Elba. Anything to get rid of him, the biggest criminal in US history.
@kevinashworth @anneapplebaum make him work a minimum wage, customer-facing sevice job
@kevinashworth @anneapplebaum Just have ICE blackbag him and ship him back to South Africa. They could even crowdfund the cost.
@anneapplebaum DOGE *still* siphoning data.

@anneapplebaum

The people who flooded Musk with cash to monetize the DOGE destruction weren't beset with substance abuse issues or family drama.

Alwaleed bin Talal gave Musk billions for Twitter, Tesla, and xAI, all companies losing money & market share.

Musk was paid by some of the richest people on the planet to do what he did.

Who’s advertising on Twitter? One of its biggest investors: Saudi Arabia

Elon Musk and his companies have deep ties to the kingdom's billionaire royals.

@anneapplebaum I have no empathy for Elon Musk because he told me exhibiting empathy is a weakness. @Npars01
Blitzed

THE INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER 'The most brilliant and fascinating book I have read in my entire life' Dan Snow 'A huge contribution... remarkable' Antony Beevor, BBC RADIO 4 'Extremely interesting ... a serious piece of scholarship, very well researched' Ian Kershaw The Nazis presented themselves as warriors against moral degeneracy. Yet, as Norman Ohler's gripping bestseller reveals, the entire Third Reich was permeated with drugs: cocaine, heroin, morphine and, most of all, methamphetamines, or crystal meth, used by everyone from factory workers to housewives, and crucial to troops' resilience - even partly explaining German victory in 1940. The promiscuous use of drugs at the very highest levels also impaired and confused decision-making, with Hitler and his entourage taking refuge in potentially lethal cocktails of stimulants administered by the physician Dr Morell as the war turned against Germany. While drugs cannot on their own explain the events of the Second World War or its outcome, Ohler shows, they change our understanding of it. Blitzed forms a crucial missing piece of the story.

@anneapplebaum just in case you're wondering 'is this criticism or propaganda', look at the photo they chose.

Not of Musk gurning in a Tesla like a pinged up fuckwit 3 pills deep at the Above and Beyond stage at Defqon, not the stupid chainsaw, not his sieg heil while pulling a face straight from a 'sickest festival hakks/gabber' compilation.

Or any of the other times he's been visibly under the influence in his role. The photographer that staged this shot to look dashing is an artist.

@BoysenberryCider
The article really reads like criticism and the other pictures included in it sure don't put him in the best of light.
@anneapplebaum

@cafeinux @anneapplebaum In my opinion, the article has undergone editorial meddling. The first three paragraphs, headline and the picture imply Musk's drug use was temporary, caused by the stress of his governmental role.

Keep reading, and you'll see a much fairer and more damning report. But low information readers skimming the paper will think 'oh good, he's leaving government, he can relax and Tesla will right itself'. They're getting ahead of the story, and neutering it.

@anneapplebaum I thought that was 8647’s excuse. You know, The TacoMan!

@anneapplebaum

Also, the use of past tense there doesn't exclude the present. Outside of being an unethical dirt-bag, and criminal he's kind of a mess.

@anneapplebaum And by complete coincidence while he was on drugs & had family issues, he gutted every single agency that was investigating him, destroyed all the evidence they had on him & put back doors in their systems so he can monitor their future activities & stop them if he wants

All while in a haze

@anneapplebaum

Clearly they weren’t good drugs. With all that money and he takes crap…lmfao

@anneapplebaum

What do you suppose he’s referring to here?

@KydiaMusic @anneapplebaum

It is the kind of association that can be brought to you by a better trip through drugs.

Look at this guy he thinks he’s Neo. He’s coming from the class of people who would be better classified as a goddamn architect.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @KydiaMusic @anneapplebaum If he thinks he's Neo then he doesn't know what The Matrix was metaphor for

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-53692435

The Matrix is a 'trans metaphor', Lilly Wachowski says

Lilly Wachowski, who came out as trans in 2016, says the "world wasn't quite ready" in 1999.

BBC News

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @staringatclouds @guamwatt

So he’s just referring to…himself? lol what a pompous ass. Although the way he worded it (since he already made his public debut in support of Frump earlier that day) was confusing to me, as he specifically mentions “tomorrow” and “lasers from space.”

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ English is my first language, I’m sorry

@KydiaMusic @staringatclouds @guamwatt

I don’t think any of us can really say and I kind of expect he can’t either.

It’s vaguely threatening and certainly within the ballpark of the kind of drug enhanced megalomaniacal fantasies these guys entertain.

So whatever..

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @staringatclouds @guamwatt

Thank you for your assessment. I consider myself fairly adept at reading comprehension, but that quote was really confusing me. I should’ve known better than to try to find a serious meaning in such an unserious person.

@KydiaMusic @staringatclouds @guamwatt

I don’t assume good faith communication out of people like musk or anyone with significant wealth. What they say is designed to convince you and me to give them what they want. First assess anything that comes out of their mouth in that light before looking at it any other way.

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @staringatclouds @guamwatt

I guess I assumed he was at least referring to a concrete thing, like throwing the election with lots of money and (possibly) other shenanigans. Since he was confiding in “someone close to him” it didn’t come across as a sales pitch so much as a brag about something specific. Perhaps the giddy semi-confession of a megalomaniac who had a good idea about how to adjust “those vote-counting computers.”

Trump: Elon Musk knows 'those vote counting computers'

YouTube

@KydiaMusic @staringatclouds @guamwatt

Yeah, I think that’s what I noticed as well. Part of their dark fantasy world involves controlling the monopoly of violence.. their idea is they make a silicon God to run the world for them control everyone and everything so when he starts babbling about space lasers, you know somewhere he’s thinking something like Starlink with guided missiles or lasers on them.

@KydiaMusic @anneapplebaum

Well, Starlink satellites use laser based communication between them. So, is he threatening to instead point those lasers at other targets? Or does he have a few setup to concentrate and focus and redirect as a larger beam...

<insert ubiquitous star wars death star firing graphics>

@anneapplebaum

Now he should try that with a job.

@anneapplebaum But the whole reason for him getting to be the DOGE guy and tell the rest of us what's best for us is that he is better than us, one of the Greats who would never do anything like that

@anneapplebaum

Abuse drugs, act crazy and you too can become the richest person in the world.

@anneapplebaum Some of the people he fired committed suicide.

One of my life's little missions is to outlive monsters like this, so I can drink a little toast when one of them passes away.

@anneapplebaum But the timing of the story by the FNYT is so on point for them.
@anneapplebaum He's trying to redeem himself from Nuremberg 2.0

@anneapplebaum

Fuck the New York Times, the "what I did on my vacation" coverage of the end of America.

Coup paper. No need for links to the disease platform.

@anneapplebaum

How come nobody actually thought of the drug thing before?
and
Why isn't anyone yelling Backsies on any of the stuff he pulled?

@anneapplebaum And his people are still there where he implanted them, and will continue to feed him whatever he wants and put backdoors into databases and help him destroy civil servants' lives and services for the American people. They should all be charged with crimes and put on trial.

@Nonya_Bidniss @anneapplebaum

I want the billionaires involved in project 2025 and the guy is a platform billionaire from Silicon Valley that are involved in the nerd bike. I want their companies seized broken up handed over to the workers, their own wealth reduced to no more than 100 million and then, then in prison Ian, a maximum security prison to live out the rest of their lives in solitary confinement never to see the light of day again.

I don’t think I’m bitter

@anneapplebaum He did what enemies such as the PRC and Al Qaeda only could dream about.

@anneapplebaum

@realDonaldTrump@truthsocial.com posted "Canada has agreed to ensure we have a secure Northern Border, and to finally end the deadly scourge of drugs like Fentanyl that have been pouring into our Country, killing hundreds of thousands of Americans, while destroying their families and communities all across our Country"

Well #Musk is taking ketamine.

#ketamine #drugs #drug #USA #Trump #canada #Fentanyl #ICE

@anneapplebaum and Trump gave him the power and let him do for months!
