Analog TVs put off a high-pitched whine that apparently only dogs and I can hear. German analog TVs have a louder whine than American ones. When I lived in Germany as a kid, I could walk into a house and tell you if the TV was on even if the TV wasn't in my line of sight and the volume was muted.

My parents have a grandfather clock that used to keep me awake at night all the way on the other side of the house with my bedroom door shut.

@ZenHeathen I'm not sure about the social cues part though. I never know if I'm missing a social cue because of ADHD or because of growing up as a bilingunal #ThirdCultureKid.

Ugg.... Now I can't get the noise out of my head. Was the same for me.

@courtcan

Hey, I can hear that too!

@helplessduck It's maddening! ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
@courtcan @helplessduck I donโ€™t know how many times Iโ€™ve asked to turn the TV off. โ€œIt _is_ off.โ€ โ€œNo, I can hear it.โ€ Argument ensues.
In high school I was like Dudes! I say this 3-4 times a week in 4th hour. Just take my word and turn it off!
We once had a B&B TV that I managed to get my husband to hear. It was AWFUL!
@courtcan @ZenHeathen i had a college roommate who used this as a way to keep people out of his room because they assumed he was in there. (why not just leave the sound on, I don't know, maybe we all used headphones)
@courtcan @ZenHeathen I heard those tvs. No one would believe me until I go stay on the other end of the house and tell them if it's off or on
