Finished the last 35 miles of my 2 day trek back from #BlueMountainLake in the #Adirondacks. A solid slog through drizzle, mist, and the occasional downpour, but after 185 miles of biking over 4 days, I made it!

The bike portion of the journey ends at the gorgeous #Utica #Amtrak station. The station has survived by becoming a multi-use facility, home to the Utica DMV, Oneida County Sherriff's office, and an office building, all while still serving as an active passenger rail station, and home to the scenic https://adirondackrr.com/

@okennedy I didn't realize Utica had a Amtrak station, and I didn't realize it was that close to Blue Mountain Lake. I haven't been up that way since 2007, and I'd love to visit the Adirondack Museum, again. I no longer have a car, so I'd have to take the train to get there. (edit, oh wait...no, I just looked at the map, it's a lot more than 35 miles, it's 100 miles)

@gcvsa If you can plan something around the summer months, Adirondack RR does 2/week runs to/from Thendara, NY starting in July, and you can buy two one-way tickets.

Last summer, the little one and I spent a bit shy of a week hanging out in Old Forge, reached purely via train. Was a fantastic experience.

If you plan to go further (e.g., by bike or on foot), I still recommend it. It's not what I expected, but the 10 miles closest to Utica/Rome was brutally hilly (vs Rt. 28, which mainly follows valleys).

(edit: Since ARR wasn't running, I split the trip into 2 ~40 mile days)

@okennedy The problem for me is, I'd have to take Amtrak from Vermont to NYC, then back up. Amtrak is, however, building a new level boarding platform in my town, so I will be able to roll my #bicycle right on board next year!
