Saurik compared semi untethered jailbreaking to cygwin. We went from unlocking the kernel and the underlying system to making a compatibility layer that runs code. rootfs-less jailbreaks are interesting like it's just. i dont know it's not how it was

Exploits don't typically infect the kernel anymore. Even if they did it wouldn't persist on reboot. iOS jailbreaks are just about tripping the kernel up to run code and then they have their own runtime for everything

iOS jailbreaks are just about tripping the kernel up to run code and then they have their own runtime for everythingI never delved into the details of how iOS jailbreaks work. I was too young. But I always perceived it as more stable. As a user, but with the perspective of a developer now, this sounds totally like it's way safer. I understand it might be more annoying to work on, or less fun, but i do think this is a good thing. this is a positive thing, and it massively improves the user experience.

@puppygirlhornypost2 @tauon @silly big disagree. yalu102 was my first jailbreak, and I was with that scene for a while. up until like, iOS 14 or 15.

I never got the thing with CoolStar being a prick. in hindsight, I think that was always rooted in transphobia? like, her jailbreak tools worked fine and they were nice to use. I like Sileo better than Cydia. when I used unc0ver i anyways installed Zebra, because it was sorta similar to Sileo.

it became a money grab with plagiarismI was never aware of any widespread plagiarism. it never felt like a money grab to me. the free tweaks are abundant and the paid ones I used were always fairly priced and i think it's money well spent.

I loved the jailbreak scene i got to experience. I was young, so maybe I didn't comprehend the horrors, but it felt comfortable.

and then, coming to Android, everything is so.... fragmented. it's not as fun. everything feels unstable because they literally werent made for the exact operating system I have. customization stuff barely works. play integrity is a bitch (compared to iOS, where libhooker & shadow are magic swords that slice through any detection). discovery of stuff is hard because there's no good central repo. where the fuck is my package manager I need my package manager. and the system itself is so hostile to rooting (see: play integrity). I can't use mobile touch payments. I can't use RCS. even apple has RCS now. at least on iOS, nothing about the core system degrades when I gain root access.

it's also worth noting that like, I was literally ten years old when Electra released? this doesn't necessarily excuse my actions but I very much so was a Child who did not understand yet that transgender people exist. so it's not surprising that I went with it. I regret being a part of this.

also, what? this was almost Eight years ago? holy shit this was like 8 years ago. almost half my life ago is when I entered jailbreaking. and it was about 2 years ago I switched to Android. so I was in there for a solid like, six years. wow.

i was just a Weird child. im not 100% sure how or why i was how i was. i know some of it but not all of it. i'd be able to work it out given enough time (remembering random things like the transgender furries i followed on twitter in 2018 (i was a total egg i know))
